What a great day...
May. 12th, 2003 09:22 pmIt felt like I had been away from work for months for some reason, this is probably a good thing, but I soon fell back into the hang of it all. That was until our internet connection started sputtering and then completely died. We basically had no internet connection at all until the BT ADSL guy was able to come later to find the cause and hopefully fix it.
Come 3pm, the BT guy arrived and it took him all of 10 minutes to say that the router had died. What this meant exactly, I wasn't sure but the CEO and one of my collegues went off to PC World to get a replacement. Meanwhile, we put on a best of the 90's CD that James got free with a magazine and jived along to Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer ;) Yes, we didn't get a hell of a lot work done today as we weren't able to... well the phones were still ringing so we still handled those. Unfortunately the internet doesn't control our phone system - yet. The net was back up by around 5pm so we had all of 30mins to get stuff done.
Also today, I learnt that while I was away, another person has handed in their notice. this seems to happen every time I take a short holiday from work... This time round, it was the admin/sales girl saying she was tired of being treated like shit. She hasn't got another job but she seems very confident she'll be able to get another soon. I wish I could employ this attitude and just cut myself free but I got bills that need paying...
Come home time, I made the usual rush for the train at Waterloo, platform 11 as usual, slam-door train as usual. I was in such a rush, I didn't have time to look at the departure boards, It's ALWAYS platform 11 and it's ALWAYS a slam-door train. however, when we began to depart, I soon learnt that it was in fact the train for Portsmouth! Fortunately for me, I was able to get off relatively close to Southampton and got a lift from there. Actually got home a bit earlier than I usually do too which was nice but that doesn't mean I'll be doing it again.
