The morning of the 31st Jan saw me having a nice long lie in, waking up around 10am. I showered and made sure all my stuff was packed. Hunter asked if I wanted to do lunch, and I suggested the In N Out as I hadn't been there yet and it was walking distance. I had the double double with cheese fries which was very tasty (and cheap) for a fast food restaurant. Walked back to the apartment where I then wasted some more time on the internet until 2pm when we had to leave. Even car pooling, it took us some time to get to LAX but as my flight wasn't until 7pm, still had plenty of time. Check in and security were pretty much pain free as the lines were short and had no problems. Beyond security, there wasn't a whole lot to do as there there was a small duty free shop, some restaurants, some Starbucks and a few souvenir shops. I continued the tradition of trying stuff you don't generally get in the UK and had a Chicken Quesadillas from Chillis which were rather tasty, and also spent my remaining dollars on sweets to bring back to the UK. After wasting as much time as I could with the facilities int he airport, I still had lots of time to waste. I couldn't get a decent service from the wifi hotspot which I had intended to pay for so just ended up playing DS, reading a magazine or doing nothing.

At around 6.30pm we were able to board. I ended up sitting next to a oldish English guy from Tunbridge Wells who had been visiting friends and playing golf. For the first half of the journey, it was OK, I got some episodes watched on the PMP and had a rather crappy meal. However about 4-5hours into the flight, while the lights were all off, everyone else was sleeping, I just started to feel rather unwell. It wasn't nausea, I just felt really dry, found it hard to breathe normally and had pains in my gut. I figure it must have been something to do with sleep deprivation and maybe stress of flying but the feeling just didn't go away. The flight attendant tried to help but as they can't give out medication (I had asked for paracetamol/Tylenol), the best they could do was give out water. I did eventually throw up into one of their sick bags, being the first time I've ever needed to use one of those things, but it didn't make me feel much better. Oddly, only after the attendant gave me some Coke did I seem to fall asleep, waking up 2 hours later feeling much better however, I still don't know what it was. The breakfast they served, about an hour before we landed, was also pretty crap, being just a croissant with some spreads.

The flight landed soon after and I made my way to passport control... only when I got here, I checked the wallet I keep all my travel documents in and didn't see my passport there. I panicked a little, but soon found it in the front pouch of my bag. Being a UK citizen, the passport control process is just a quick scan of the passport. In the time it took me to get a trolley and get to the relevant carousel, my bags were right there as I arrived which was a spot of luck. Then made my way through to the shopping area and got some UK cash and some breakfast from AMT Coffee. Then made my way to the bus station, not being in a hurry as it was over an hour until my coach. When I got there, I realised that there was an earlier coach leaving an hour before mine. I paid £3 alteration fee and was able to get the earlier journey home. Got a taxi from the coach station to my home as I really didn't want to lug my bags across town.

Got home around 3.45pm and started my laundry while playing my copy of Burnout Paradise which had arrived while I was away, as well as playing Rez HD and the new demo of Beautiful Katamari (which comes out this month finally!). I stayed up until around half 9pm after watching Sweeney Todd as I wanted to try to correct my body clock. Woke up around 1am but fell asleep again only to wake at 10am, so did a good job there. Not done a whole lot today other than upload my photos. Will be going to town shortly where I need to pick up some Woolite to clean my fursuit with and also get some food as I have none. Not looking forward to going back to work on Monday...

I started the day rather concerned that I had nothing planned for the day. [livejournal.com profile] blizl who so kindly played the role of tour guide bfore the con had been struck down by bad con-crud and so didn't feel well enough to take me out today. I made a desperate post to the SoCalFurs community asking for some help in preventing me from spending a boring day in Hunter's apartment.

Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] yaochi came to the rescue and offered to pick me up once he had finished some work at around noonish. When he turned up, we walked down to the Metro station which I had et to use during my time in the area, and we took a trip to Chinatown. We took a look through all the unusual shops there with surprisingly a lot available by foot. Didn't pick up anything other than a soda but got some good photos of the area. After Chinatown, we checked out Old Pasadena which unlike the name suggests seemed pretty modern with lots of well known brand shops, again all easily accessed by foot which I didn't think happened in the LA area. Grabbed a Subway before heading back to the Metro to get back to Hunter's. As we still had an hour to burn, I decided to ask if we could go to Sears as I was in the market for a new electric razor to replace my old Philips/Norelco razor I bought back in 1997 when I first visited the USA. Found the one I was after, which was the Philips/Norelco Arcitec 1050. It cost a lot for a razor, but I like gadgets and felt like spoiling myself. It worked out as roughly £95 which was a decent saving on the UK equivalent. Razors are one of the few electrical items other than portable consoles you can buy abroad without any concern about getting them to work in the UK as they are made for travel.

Anyway, got back to Hunter's, gave my thanks and said goodbye to Yaochi before setting off to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] stego_s_aurus, Kat and Grant at an Indian fast food restaurant in Claremont, roughly half way between Hunter's and Stego's. The fast food aspect effectively meant it was buffet style, with the food already prepared and you just select what you want. I went for the chicken tikka masala as I didn't really fancy much of the other options, combined with some potato cauliflower thing and also some pappodoms and a nan. The tikka wasn't hugely different to what you get in the UK, if a bit milder than normal. The mango chutney was much darker than what I'm used to and didn't seem to have any mango chunks in it but pretty much tasted the same as I'm used to. On the whole, it was good for what it was, which was a fast food restaurant but I expect a proper restaurant could have been better. Anyway, the evening wasn't really about the food, it was about meeting up with Stego and Grant again after meeting them at FC, and also meeting Kat who was supposed to be at FC but couldn't make it. Kat told me of the amusing story about how se ended up driving off a ravine in bizarre circumstances and lived to tell the tale. Sadly [livejournal.com profile] vircoo couldn't make it as well, but as he commented on my previous LJ post, he had work commitments.

I'm now back at Hunter's place for my last night here in California as tomorrow I shall be making sure I've got everything charged and packed ready for my trip back to boring England where things are no longer half price thanks to the exchange rate, and I'll also have masses of laundry to do as well as prepare myself for an ass kicking at work due to whatever mess it's been left in during my absence. I'm hoping it's not too bad but I just know there'll be a mound of stuff to do when I get back. Oh well, this is the penultimate post to my 11 day Californian trip. I've had a great time here and am very sad to be going home tomorrow. I won't be touching down on UK soil until midday on the 1st so unless I make a sneaky post tomorrow morning, I'll be away until then!

PS. Out of the $1200 I took out with me, I'm down to $24 remaining which I expect to spend on food tomorrow. Biggest dent was the razor I bought today, but I think I budgeted quite well for the con, food, attractions and other stuff :)

Soo, I'm back in [livejournal.com profile] hunterkitty's place in Pasadena which is looking significantly more bare due to the fact he is in the process of moving out and has shifted some tables and things since I last visited. Anyway this morning, Avon went off early to grab breakfast so I did the LJ thing before showering and packing and hanging with some furs near the fire in the lobby before [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk arrived to collect me. Was sad to see the back of the Doubletree but not overwhelmingly so; I think Monday helped me see off any post con depression. [livejournal.com profile] perlandria and Arakin took me to Flames where they got the gigantic birthday cake previously. Had a Fajita omlette which was very tasty. Also had a side order of French Toast which I couldn't finish from being full to bursting point.

After food, we drove literally next door to the Winchester Mystery House, something which I didn't really know anything about before visiting. It's basically a tour of a rather large house built by the wife of the owner of the Winchester rifle company which was built rooms at a time, and with rather unusual architecture which makes little sense including stairs which lead nowhere, windows and doors into nothing and unfinished or earthquake damaged rooms. To be honest, it wasn't as interesting as I hoped, but it was a pleasant distraction.

After the long walking tours of the house, we went to BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse where we indulged in a ham and pineapple calzone and gallons of house brewed root beer (num!). Tried to eat dessert (something called a Pizookie but is just a fresh baked cookie with ice cream) but couldn't finish it on account of being stuffed. Perlandria wasn't feeling too well so she was taken home by her friend so Arakin could take me to San Jose Airport.

Again, it was a fairly pleasant journey back to Burbank with Southwest Airlines. There were only about 40 of us on the Boeing 737 flight so everyone pretty much got a row to themselves. The seats also gave plenty of legroom, much moreso than the transatlantic flights in economy/coach class with Virgin/AA. Arrived at Burbank and made my way to the baggage claim to shortly be greeted by Hunter and [livejournal.com profile] kaysho. However, the carousel never seemed to display my flight, so Hunter went and asked at the desk, only to find that my bags were waiting on a cart nearby rather than on the carousel. I can only assume I was one of the few passengers who even had checked luggage.

Anyway, we drove back to Hunter's after that and I've been chilling out here since. Regrettably, I've been unable to secure anything to do tomorrow during the day so far so it could be a relatively dull day until we meet up with [livejournal.com profile] stego_s_aurus and Kat for dinner at an Olive Garden. Hunter may be able to get some time off work so we can do the other Disney park our tickets our still valid for but he says it's unlikely *fingers crossed*.

Monday is officially the last day of the con, but to be honest, for most it's the day people leave. For this reason, I made sure I had something else to do other than sit around in the hotel watching people leave, getting upset. As such, after helping Arakin pack up and check out (after moving my stuff up to room 558), [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk, [livejournal.com profile] badgerguy, [livejournal.com profile] lycrawolf and I went off to California's "Great" Mall. I put the great in quote marks because it's called The Great Mall, but to be honest, I found it somewhat underwelming. Not as big as they'd like to make you think, nor are there really any decent shops that I wanted to visit. We did go to Hot Topic, a place I like to make sure I go to when in America to pick up funky t-shirts but even they didn't have anything on offer which inspired me so I left the mall somewhat disappointed I couldn't find anything to spend my money on other than Arby's... which was less than fantastic (the food court offerings were also a bit crappy). Ah well, maybe go to the other mall next year, if I go to FC that is.

After coming back from the mall, I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] avon_deer and [livejournal.com profile] alohawolf near the bar chatting, waiting for the Dead Dog Party to get going. Ended up having a meal in the hotel restaurant (not the posh one) and had a half pounder which I couldn't finish due to being so big and me having Arby's earlier. Then went to join the Dead Dog Part as it had finally gotten going. To start off with, I was feeling a bit weird having been shivering while still wearing my hoodie inside but then felt rather warm so wasn't so keen on fursuiting, however after Arakin had got dressed up and I saw all the suiters there, I thought I couldn't pass up the last oppertunity to suit up at the con and so dragged Arakin back to my room to help me suit up (after having much grief getting my contacts in). I'm very glad I did suit up as I had a lot of fun dancing about, met a lot of folks and just had a great time. Stayed until the dance wrapped up at 11pm.

Now the convention has officially wrapped, I can't help feeling I should have done more. I spent a lot of time, well too much time in the hotel room when I could have been down in the lobby meeting random people. Of course my time old problem is that I can't just talk random people, I have to be introduced as I can be a bit shy. I would have liked to suit up more but I think I'll need to get a new revision of my suit or a new suit altogether if I want to suit more. This is mostly due to the deign of the head. Externally, it looks great but interall, there's a big chunk of foam in the mouth and a bit of material over the lip which is loose which is very annoying when sweaty. I'd like the muzzle to be hollow to increase air fow, but that's the downside of the way my head was designed, based on a balaclava. Well we'll see, I've lots of debts to pay off before gettng another sut...

Anyway, I really enjoyed myself, met some great new people and am sad to be going. Next con will be EF. Still uncertain if I will be going to FC09, but I enjoyed it more than AC so it's a maybe at this point in time.

Today, I'll be getting picked up by Arakin and have a bit of a touristy day in San Jose before I have to get my flight back down to Bob Hope/Burbank at 6pm to meet up with Hunterkitty again. Was a real shame he couldn't make the con. Tomorrow, I need to figure out what I'm to do with my day if Hunter can't get the time off work, although I have made arrangements to meet up with Stego and Kat tomorrow evening. Nothing planned for the time on Thursday before my evening flight either so will need to work something out...

This was the last day of the con for many people, some because they were leaving that evening to go to work tomorrow, others because there really isn't much to do on the Monday anyway. It was the last day for my roomies [livejournal.com profile] stego_s_aurus, [livejournal.com profile] vircoo and Grant. It was great hanging out with those guys and it was sad to see them go.

Elsewhere, sadly the Critterlympics was a washout due to rain so I ended up just floating about and going between the room and the hotel lobby area. Hooked up with [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk once I had seen my roomies off at around 6pm with the plan of going to Denny's with Bushycat. Come 7.30pm we were still waiting and I wanted to see the variety show (I hadn't seen one show live yet at the con). So I ended up getting some pizza from the hot food counter before joining the show. Amazingly the show had started on time at 7:30pm with a performance by the San Jose Taiko drummers before the actual show started. After the performances had concluded and I had handed in my ballot form, I went for a quick toilet break only to find I couldn't get back in to the room because they were allegedly over capacity. I was told to move out of the way and just felt a bit taken back by this. I didn't have anything else to do and I wanted to see the conclusion of the show. I decided to go back to Arakin's room as I had expected he would be back from dining by then but only [livejournal.com profile] perlandria was there. She tried to cheer me up best she could as I was noticably upset (emotions kinda running riot due to end of con vibe) and made me some british tea while we waited for Arakin to return.

Eventually got Arakin to go fursuiting with me at around half 11 only to find that the music in the dance area was just plain awful. It was effectvely just a repeatative beat with no other sounds and the occaisonal break. Not very fursuit friendly, or good at all to be honest. We ducked back into the headless lounge and pretty much everyone else was feeling the same about the music. Was a nice oppertunity to socialise with some other fursuiters however. Found [livejournal.com profile] tilt_longtail chilling out behind the stage in his Jax made Greifer suit. I know he's been after a photo of us together since AC so we went out in search of a photographer. There was a semi-official photographer but they werepacking up so we found [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle who did the honours. As the music never got any better, Arakin and I made our way back to my room to de-suit and sleep.

Today, I need to check out of Stego's room and move into what was [livejournal.com profile] hunterkitty's room with [livejournal.com profile] avon_deer up on the fifth floor and then find something to do for the day. I've vague plans to go to the Great Mall like I did last time, and I think [livejournal.com profile] badgerguy is up for it too. So hopefully today won't be too depressing, I'm off to have a shower... bye!
slycat: (Default)
Yesterday, I finally got round to fursuiting and I felt much better for it. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lycrawolf I was able to get a suitable undersuit for the fursuit which meant no soggy t-shirts to worry about. I got suited around 2pm for the parade which as always took forever to get going (it was scheduled for 2:30 but seemed to be at least 3pm when it started. Lots of photos were taken so I hope to see those online later. The end of the parade seemed to be somewhat disorganised as I figure people were expecting a group photo but it never happened and people just seemed to randomly disperse. I followed some people but when I realised they were just going to the elevator, I circled back and joined the queue for fursuit badges before chilling out in the headless lounge before going back to the room. Allegedly the parade was in excess of 380 participants which would break the record set at AC of 353. I'm proud to be part of both :)

Elsewhere during the day, I also got a new badge made by an artist going by the name of Balto (I think) who did great toony stuff. Was good to get another badge as I couldn't find any of my old ones when I was packing at home other than the one done by Spunky which was only a pencil sketch, done at AC. Joined [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk and [livejournal.com profile] emejn for dinner at Denny's before helping Arakin pick up a box of Brawndo (The Thirst Mutilator) soda which had been delivered.

As the evening progressed, I tried to mingle in the second floor parties but kinda failed, and so I went to see what was going on at the official dance but wasn't so fussed by that either so I did end up going back to my room on my own and effectively feeling sorry for myself. I was no longer feeling jetlagged, just demotivated... Then Stego came in and gave me the pep talk I needed to get suited and join the dance at around midnight. Had fun dancing away until I burned myself out needing to chill out in the headless lounge. I went out for a bit more but realised I was totally exhausted and so made the trip back to my room, only to ind I was locked out. Not because I had forgotten my key, but because the room was "in use" and the latch had been moved over so the door wouldn't open. I was still in fursuit at this stage, physically exhausted, dripping with sweat. One of the residents of next door arrived and saw I was stuck outside so took me into his room and offered a seat and a chat which was nice. This was until I heard Grant, one of my roomies also trying to get in. About 5-10 mins later we were able to get in and I was able to get my shower before collapsing on the bed and sleeping until around 9am. Some time during the night, another bed had appeared in the room, which I presume was to allow Grant to sleep as it was his bed which was in use but Grant had fallen asleep in the armchair until morning so never used it :P.

So far, totally managed to avoid any kind of con-crud. Must be due to eating regular meals and getting a decent amount of sleep. Today, assuming the weather holds off, I'll be watching the Critterlympics at 1pm and also Furry Night Live. My roomies Stego, Grant and Vircoo are leaving around 6pm so I'll have the room to myself for the night and then I got a whole lot of nothing to do tomorrow before Tuesday when I'll be hanging out with Arakin before getting the flight back to Burbank to be reunited with Hunterkitty.

Following on from my previous post, my roomies are great. I do the whole worrying thing but I really needn't have :).

Anyway, yesterday I didn't do a heck of a lot to be honest. After breakfast at the hotel restaurant, I wasted time on DS pictochat with my roomies while they were queuing for registration. After that I kinda floated around, looking at what was on offer in the dealers room and art show. I was quite pleased to find that my feet made by Whitewolf had arrived safely, and they are really cute and well made. I had planned to suit up but due to a combination of not having someone to help me suit up and also the lack of any undersuit (like an idiot, I left it at home), I didn't get to in the end. Also, I ended up getting very tired around 4pm which annoyed the heck out of me as I don't want to be getting tired. Energy drinks didn't really seem to help either.

Come 5pm, I went to [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk's 30th birthday party which was a great success. It started off slowly (I was the first there so I was obviously hungry and wanted pizza :P) but people started showing up such as [livejournal.com profile] khyle, [livejournal.com profile] trajan_lj, [livejournal.com profile] raelbny, [livejournal.com profile] emejn, [livejournal.com profile] rakhan, [livejournal.com profile] furyfox, [livejournal.com profile] yagfox, [livejournal.com profile] mr_wolf and many others including Micah Fennec/Moody Ferret and her other half Mike. Was nice to chat with everyone, enjoy some great pizza and celebrate Arakin's birthday. I can't mention Arakin's birthday and not mention the cake which was absolutely massive. Sadly it wasn't a type of cake I really like (black forest gateau) but even after everyone had a slice, there was still more than half left.

After the party I came back to the room to see Stego and co off who went fursuiting. I didn't join them, in fact I ended up watching Iron Artist and Furmily Feud (think Family Fortune with furs :) on the FCTV channel followed by the masquerade from the first FC which was Stego's first appearance in the suit he happened to be wearing at the time. I tried finding something to do, checking out the dance but in the end, I just felt like going to bed. Sometime during the evening it appears Beetlejuice came into our room as he needed to use our hair drier... most odd.

Today however, I will be suiting, there's the fursuit parade on and I also want to get me a fursuit badge. Off to breakfast now so until next time, good bye! :)

Took the flight up to San Jose at noon from Burbank/Bob Hpe Airport after having a crappy breakfast from Carl's Jr and saying goodbye to my host [livejournal.com profile] hunterkitty. The flight was pretty quick and problem free, as was the shuttle bus to the Doubletree hotel. Bumped into [livejournal.com profile] lycrawolf and [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk while checking in. Joined the impossibly massive queue for registration which was delayed an hour. I moved to the sponsor line to get registered quicker and upgrade my registration but once I got to the front they said hey had no means of taking my mone so effectively, I just got registered before everyone else. After that, just spent time loitering about saying hi to people I reckognised before going out o Denny's with Arakin and some friends of his. Now, I'm back in my room, [livejournal.com profile] vircoo's just arrived and [livejournal.com profile] stego_s_aurus will be arriving imminently. I feel really knackered however so will be planning to sleep soon. Laters!

So, today started out with the over-indulgent breakfast supplied by IHOP. Many meats and endless pancakes covered in delicious syrup and white foamy butter were consumed. Having filled up on food, we ventured off to Disneyland.

Got there shortly after 12noon due to traffic, but once there, the park was pretty empty. However, when we did get there, we found that the Haunted Mansion was closed and also The Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain were all closed so we ended up going on Space Mountain (which was absolutely awesome) followed by Star Tours which was identical to the one in Florida. However, by this time the Indiana Jones ride had opened so we went on that. Was a very enjoyable ride save for the hysterically screaming girls. We then found that Splash Mountain was running and so decided to do that next. I was concerned about getting my electricals wet so we picked up a plastic bag from the candy store before going on the ride. I was very glad we did as we got absolutely soaked to the bone on Splash Mountain. It wasn't helped by the fact that I was only in a t-shirt and jeans and the weather was rapidly getting cooler (and the clouds were getting darker). The Pirates ride was still not open by this time so we figured we would get the monorail to Downtown Disney for some food, and I would get a hoodie as it was now starting to rain pretty heavily. Ended up hitting two birds with one stoe by going to the Rainforest Cafe. Had a tasty pasta dish and bought a green hoodie in the souvenir shop as they were on sale. Headed back though all the shops of Downtown Disney before getting back to the park where we found that Pirates was finally open. Following the ride, we had a wonder around the park, ended up going on Space Mountain again before going home.

On the whole, the park was fun, however mostly due to the weather, it didn't quite have the same atmosphere as the Florida parks did when I went in 2000. The passes we got allowed us two visits for the price of one as long as they are redeemed within 30 days of purchase so we may revisit on the Wednesday after FC if Hunter can get the time off work.

After Disney, not really done much other than watch TV and write this entry. I'm feeling rather tired (and also bothered by comments in a co-worker's Livejournal about work) and need to make sure I get up early (this shouldn't be a problem) as I need to ensure I'm packed and ready for FC. To be honest, it's not really sunk in that I'm going to FC yet. Hopefully the feeling will sink in when I'm actually there.

Not too sure how long I can keep providing these daily accounts of my holiday considering what happened last year but I'll do my best, even if it's just to kep a record of what I did for myself :).

Anyway, due to the time difference, I ended up falling asleep half way through the Sarah Connor Chronicles around half 9pm only to wake at about 12:45am. It took me a while to realise that this meant 45 minutes past midnight rather than noon as I was suddenly concerned that I may have overslept and missed my opportunity to go on a tour with [livejournal.com profile] blizl. After the initial shock, I was able to sleep on and off until around 5/6am at which point I just gave in and watched some episodes of American Dad on my PMP before [livejournal.com profile] hunterkitty was awake. Breakfast consisted of a microwavable frozen "Breakfast Bowl", the concept of which had been alien to me before I had it. It was quite nice but was a tiny portion. Hunter went off to work (below the apartment) at 8.30am so I just lazed about until [livejournal.com profile] blizl turned up in his Prius.

As I was hungry, we stopped by a mexican restaurant where I had... something. It basically consisted of beans, rice, chicken, salad and 2 soft tortillas. It was OK but I wouldn't get it again out of choice. After filling up on food and drnk, we set off for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which seemed to be less interesting than I had expected as most of the stars were for people I had never heard of. I still took some photos anyway for the sake of it before we departed for the Griffith Observatory which gave us some fantastic views over the city and the famous Hollywood sign. After taing some snaps and taking in the scenery (despite the clouds), we then set off for Paramount Studios. Of course I naively forgot abut the writers guild strike which was going on, and so naturally, the studio was being circled by lots of people with protest signs. I still got a few snaps of the Paramount gates but didn't get to close. After that, we took a trip through Beverly Hills, past Bel Air to the pacific coast before working our way back to Pasadena. Thanks to the insane traffic, we only got back to Pasadena at just after 5.30pm, when Hunter finishes work.

We then ventured to Italian restaurant Cafe 322, meeting [livejournal.com profile] kaysho there (who had the amusing license plate of "Yiff Me") for fantastic pizza. However, due to us all filling up on the free bread, none of us were able to finish our meals. We took the remainder to go and then walked down to the Cold Stone Creamery for dessert. Following the experience I gained from going to Cold Stone with [livejournal.com profile] daiwuff, I went for the small. It was totally delicious, and I was able to finish it too! After that, we said our goodbyes to Kaysho and headed back to the apartment where Blizl picked up the 1kg of Cadbury's chocolate I got him from the airport duty free shop and then he disappeared back to his place.

In all, I considered it a rather productive day haing been able to meet some new furs, see some of the sights of LA and also get some great grub! Tommorow, we're off to Disneyland :)

So to recap on the day's events so far, I got up at around 4am after a fairly uneasy sleep due to a mix of excitement and anxiety. I had everything prepared from the night before so it was just a matter of waiting for the taxi to arrive and get to the coach station. The coach journey got quite badly delayed due to congeston on the M3 meaning we got there about 40mins late. However I wasn't too bothered as my arrangements had made me due to be 4 hours in advance of my flight anyway. Lines for check in were non-existant, as were the queues for security, leaving me with far too much time in the duty free area beyond security. I was able to pick up a few essential purchases and grab breakfast but still had too much time. Ended up playing Peggle on the laptop out of boredom. The second the gate was announced, I upped and left for my departure gate and ended up being the first there, only to be greated by a full body padding down and my bags being swabbed. I've never had that done before, I don't know if it was just AA that do it but they seemed to be doing it for a number of the people arriving at the gate. Already I was thinking "Welcome to America, where we treat everyone as a potential terrorist".

Anyway, the flight itself was long and for the most part, dull. Fortunately, the South African I was sat next to didn't need to get up for the toilet or anything at all which was good. I couldn't get to sleep as always so I made the most of what I had by watching The Nines, The Bucket List, an episode of Family Guy and Sarah Connor Chornicles on my PMP before the batteries died (I had been using it as a MP3 player on the trip in, and the car charger thing didn't seem to work), also playing random games on the PSP and DS. However even that wasn't enough to make the 10 hour flight pass any quicker. The food was ok, being some sort of chicken and pasta dish, later followed by a mini pizza.

Arrived 40mins early at LA. The queues at immigration were short, and I didn't get interrogated much beyond the purpose of my visit. However even after collecting my baggage, I was much earlier than I had expected, meaning I had to wait around for Hunter to battle through Martin Luther King Day traffic to et to the airport. Once picked up, we called by a Subway on the way to his apartment befoe going out again to wander around a local mall (Got Sobes :)), supermarket and Best Buy. Now back at the apartment watching new Prison Break and Sarah Connor Chronicles before bed. Tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] blizl will be picking me up and we're doing the LA tour, where I expect to take many photos :).
