Furry cons

Needless to say I am quite jealous of all the prople going off to FC this year. I really enjoyed myself last year, apart from the food poisoning or whatever it was. There seemed to be a lot of reasons why I should go, people I'd want to see there, etc., but I said to myself I'd skip it this year so I can get to AC for a bit of variety. Part of me is regretting this decision, I just hope it's not the wrong one and my trip to Anthrocon will be a good one. Because I'm going to AC, I decided that I wouldn't be able to make EF too due to it's close proximity and subsequent lack of fundage. However the more I think about it, as EF is in September this year and AC is in early July, I think there's enough time between them now. Still umming and aahing if I should go. Literally everyone else seems to be going. If I do decide to go, I've got to work out the hassle of getting myself from Frankfurt to Suhl too. Hmm, decisions decisions.

Since I registered in May for Further Confusion '06 as part of my commitment to going, I've not really taken many steps towards actually doing it.  My main reason for this is that I havn't got the money, I still don't.  However, I'm now down to £700 credit debt (with £200 in savings account) and that should be paid off in 2 months.  I spent much of the evening discussing our plans for FC with [livejournal.com profile] arakinuk and [livejournal.com profile] klepsydra such as flights and activities surrounding the con.

We've pretty much agreed to fly out to San Francisco on the 16th January, spend a few days there, get shopping done and maybe go to Alcatraz (if it's open that time of year) and then get a Greyhound coach to San Jose (which is a return journey cost of $10) for the con on the 19th.  Then on the 24th, get bus back and fly back from San Francisco.  This of course works out much cheaper and more convenient than flying to San Jose as San Jose isn't an international airport.

We spent a lot of time searching all the flight booking sites and it seems that the best offer I can get is £330 return with British Airways (plus £7 for an ITYC card) from STA Travel (although could get flight for £327 with United Airways, but I think I'd prefer BA).  Unfortunately, Arakin and Klepsie aren't under 26 so can't take advantage of STA's offer.  The best offer we seemed to find anywhere was for £344 with United Airways from Travelbag.  No sign of a decent British Airways flight.  The BA site shows the tickets as being £153 each way but the site breaks before it can add on taxes.  It seems that the taxes and fees come to around £60 so that would make a round flight approx £366.

This leads me to ask two questions if anyone can answer them; 1) Does anyone know of a magical site which gives lower prices than these (I'm certain I was getting prices more like £240 when I was searching in May... maybe those prices were without tax and now prices generally include tax... not sure) and 2) If we book flights seperately, can we still sit together if we check in together?

FC 2006

After looking at my financial situation and chatting with [livejournal.com profile] thalyi, I know that I won't be able to get to AC2005, however I should be able to get to FC2006 without any monetary problems at all.  Other reasons to go is that I've never been to that coast of America before and it's off peak season so the flights are half price.  Now, I don't want to go all that way to only stay in a hotel and not see anything so I'd like to make a holiday out of it.  That said, myself being unable to drive makes that a difficult thing to do (it's unlikely I'll know how to drive by then and have the confidence to drive on the wrong side fo the road ;), so I'm not sure how I'd manage that unless I go with someone who can drive.  When I went to AC02, the surrounding time was spent at [livejournal.com profile] daiwuff's place and she drove us about places and stuff and it made for a very fun holiday.

Sooo, my question is, is anyone interested in going down to FC2006 with me?  Need to start thinking about organising it really... don't like leaving things like this to the last minute (although I admit it is a good 9 months before the con yet).

Edit: As I plan it in my head, FC runs from Thurs - Monday for 2006, it's close to San Francisco so would like to check it out maybe for a day or two before going down to LA for the attractions there... most likely fly out of LA too to save having to get back up to San Francisco
