Why I like Christmas...
Dec. 25th, 2003 01:20 amIt's now officially Christmas Day here in the UK, so Happy christmas everyone!
The thing I really like about Christmas is not getting presents or giving them, while nice in it's own right. The thing I really love about the whole Christmas season is the surreality of it all. The fact that so many people wind down, people mess about at work and that's fine while at other times you'd be repremanded for not working. Everywhere is themed, even the TV trailers and scheduling. Everything is different, yet the same and generally more enjoyable. It's like a holiday away from reality and it's such a nice break. Unfortunately, like even the best holidays, it must come to an end and you must return to reality. After the final climax of New Years Day, the decorations are taken down, TV and people's attitudes return to normal until next December.
People may think Christmas is tacky (it is, but that's it's charm) or stressful (I managed to ease stress by shopping online this year) or lonely (I'm fortunate enough to have someone to share Christmas Day with.... but I do feel sorry for those who spend it alone as it must be tough sometimes :-/) but I think it's great.
Now off to sleep before I can see what folks have got me for Christmas ;) (apologies for the unusual structure of sentences and language but I think I got my point across. I am however a little drunk after an evening out with friends :)
