Weekendage
Jan. 26th, 2004 08:02 pmOK, I've left it for a bit so I'll be brief.
Saturday
Met up with
timmypup in London as a bit of a spare of the moment thing. Was good to see him as I know he's been down recently. We went to Covent Garden as Tim was after some trainers and I had nothing in particular to get. Tim didn't find any shoes so we ended up going to Waterstones where I bought myself Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. I had read half of the book on my GBA as an eBook but found the format too intimidating. We walked back to Leicester Square and walked around the Trocadero before walking down to Waterloo and Namco Station. Met up with
gerald_duck who was in the area as I needed to pick up a few things before getting the train home.
Sunday
Saw Scary Movie 3 (whicwith my brother at the Warner Villeage cinema (which is changing to VUE. Boo!). As it was directed by one of the directors of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, I was kinda expecting his trademark gag a minute comedy but sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. The previous Scary Movie films managed to mock many different movies, adverts and catchphrases, cramming in as many references as possible whereas Scary Movie 3 was based primarily around a hybrid of The Ring, Signs and oddly enough 8 Mile. There was also a dash of The Matrix in there but making fun of the Matrix is such a done thing by now (although casting George Carlin as The Architect was a good choice). I really admire Charlie Sheen and Leslie Nielsen's previous spoof movies but this one was just average. I see Scary Movie 4 has already been pencilled in, also directed by David Zucker so let's hope he improves on this (last) year's effort.
Today
Had more reason to worry about the future of the company I work for as I was informed by the founder of the company I worked for in Southampton before it got taken over, that the current MD was sending out desperate pelase to all 120 shareholders asking them for money promising it back with interest once the company was back on it's feet. Now I have been talking with this founder (also developer) about the possibility of splitting off the original company anbd going alone, based back in the Southampton area. This would be very beneficial for me due to control over my job and no more commuting long distances. However, it is also rather high risk... I just hope that it all pans out. Either way, it looks like my job is set for a shake up this year whether I like it or not.
