Good fortune

slycatFirst the job news yesterday and then this morning, I received a £42 refund from my monthly train ticket for January. While notparticularily "lucky" as such, I certainly needed the money and was suprised it was quite so much. It was basically due to the problems on the first 3 days of January as they were declared "void" (A void day is declared when the train service goes to shit due to unscheduled maintenance work or extreme weather conditions. They do this so they can exclude them from their monthly punctuality records and appear to have better service than they actually had). As I get monthly tickets, I can claim the "void" days back as a refund at the end of the month. 1 day costs roughly £14 so 3 days becomes £42 :) It's certainly the largest amount I've collected in one go.
Further to my good fortune, I decided to have a go on the National Lottery web site playing one of their scratchcard like games. I put £5 into the account as that was the minimum and then had a go on the Monopoly game. Immediately, I won £8. Not bad I thought. I had a few more goes on other games but failed to get any other significant prizes so I moved the remaining £10 back into my cash account.
While on the subject of winning things, most people will know I'm partial to the odd chocolate bar and when it comes to promotions, I'm often a sucker for them. This time round, Mars are running a promotion where you get a code in every wrapper of their Mars, Snickers, Bounty, Twix, Malteasers or Skittles packs. You either text that code to them on your phone and they send you loads of spam, or you put the code into the web site to see if you have won. I did the latter and 20 bars later (this is over the span of 2 weeks, I'm not quite that chocolate mad!), I had won 10 times! Now the odds are supposed to be 1 in 6. However, I seem to be getting 1 in every 2 :) So far I have won 6 confectionary products which aren't available in the shops yet, 2 ringtones and 2 SMS alerts. I havn't bothered claiming the ringtones or SMS alerts as I don't want to give them my phone number and have no need for them anyway (If you're interested, let me know and you can have the ringtones / alerts free).
So yeah, it seems I have contracted the luck virus recently (Red Dwarf reference) and am doing rather well out of it. I can only hope that my luck holds until Monday when I'm in the interview.
