Against everything I've been striving towards with my financial situation, I have paid out a large amount of money on an item I don't really need.  So what have I wasted my money on?  Why, it's a new mobile phone.  I've ordered the new Nokia 6630, which is essientially the latest evolution of my existing phone, the Nokia 6600.  Not only that, I've ordered the phone from Orange.  After being with O2 since it was simply just known as Cellnet, possibly for around 7-8 years, I am moving provider.

I have a number of reasons for this:
  • Orange have many offers and deals which appeal to my age group and seem to have a business sense I can relate to (read this as I have bought into their marketing blurb)
  • The phone I ordered isn't available on O2 yet
  • The phone itself was only £120 (expect it may have been around £200+ with O2 even on upgrade) with the cheapest tarriff of £30/mo
  • It's on 3G and I've always been a person who has to have the latest technology.
The reason why I have gone for this now rather than wait until my debts are paid off is that as Orange have just introduced 3G, they are offering a special bundle if you order before the end of January which includes 50mb data transfer free per month.  Now as I mostly use my phone for reading my mails, LJ and the like whilst on the move rather than actually calling people, I saw this as a great oppertunity.  This will mean my monthly payments will go up from £20 to £30 with the new tarriff but £10/mo extra shouldn't be a problem.
