OK, got my bro to go see the 9.10pm showing of Insomnia. The film itself was rather slow but as with Memento (Same director), it was quite clever.

Anyway, about 40mins to an hour into the film, a girl on the row in front and a few seats to the right suddenly starts making noises... She was saying 'Mother? Are you breathing?" or something simillar in quite a distressed tone. I could see the daughter shaking her mother as the mother looked quite lifeless. Things became quite surreal as the movie itself was quite unsettling but now someone in front of us could well be dieing... in real life. Naturally everyone turned to see what was going on. Somebody shouted out "Does anyone know mouth-to-mouth?" and those who knew first aid came forward and did whatever they did (Couldn't really see). Someone else said "Call an ambulance" and so a few people around were doing so. Other people went out of the cinema to alert the staff of the situation. The daughter was crying as she feared for her mother as people of the public tried to help the woman. Meanwhile, I just sat there in a kind of semishock induced trance. It was all really surreal, like something out of a movie. I didn't know what to do but then there was nothing for me to do, other people were taking necessary measures to help the woman. Soon enough the lights came on with the movie still playing. Security staff came in to help the woman and moved her. I think that she was cured of whatever was wrong with her as she was moved. The woman seemed to be moving and had a drink of water. Paramedics soon came in and helped the woman with her now apologising daughter our of the cinema.

Soon after, people returned to their seats, the emergency lights were turned off and people resumed watching the film. At the end of the film, a member of staff announced that for the "disruption" of the film, they were handing out letters that would allow us to see another movie for free. They didn't have to do this but they did. For this I am quite impressed with the way that the Odean handled this and have made it into my good books for customer service. It makes up for the problems they were having during the trailers where the picture was squashed or stretched out incorrectly at least.

But yeah, it was all quite a memorable experience. I wasn't too impressed by the film but my brother who was unsure about going to see it thought it was very good. Strange that, I usually like this sort of film. Anyhoo, I have to go to bed now as I gotta get up earlish to go to the ECTS tomorrow. I will be at the meet in the afternoon as I said in my previous entry so I'll see you there if you're going.
