Argh! F*king computer!
Oct. 9th, 2002 10:15 pmI am fighting a losing battle with my PC. It all began with me installing Unreal Tournament 2003 which I received today. However, my brother recommended getting the latest Geforce4 drivers as it improves the performance of the game. So I promptly downloaded the driver and installed it and then began to install the game (3gb installation! O_o). I was chatting on IRC or something at the same time but the system chose to hang while installing without warning meaning I have to reboot.
I've also been having a problem where the Windows XP boot screen appears to hang and so it takes forever to get into Windows. After explaining this to my brother (Who was going to help me with the GFX card problem), it turned out that my secondary HD (Which also happens to be the one I store 'My Documents' on) is being really dodgy and isnt showing up in the boot process yet still being accible in Windows. I then made sure that I transferred My Documents to another hard drive and then disconnected the faulty drive. The problem with the delayed boots was now fixed.
However, I was still having problems with the latest Geforce driver and so I've since removed it so I can use the Windows XP driver while I prepare my PC for reformatting... I really hate reformatting - last time I lost all my important emails through a silly mistake and a neglect to backup all the files I needed. I'll make preparations tonight and do the reinstall tomorrow.
