Yesterday's meet
Feb. 16th, 2003 02:42 pmWas interesting going in to London yesterday. There were lots of people also going to London but for the Stop the War march that was going on. Never have I seen so many hippies! I thought I was in the 70's for a moment... I even got asked by who seemed to be the leader of his particular group if I was going on the march and if so he had a letter to Tony Blair or something. I stopped him in his tracks and explained I wasn't going on the march. I guess I looked scruffy enough to be going on the march... There seemed to very much be a community feeling between all of these people going on this march, meeting and talking to each other, getting to know people they would otherwise have never met.
I got to Kings Cross, the original meeting place for the LondonFur meets but to my suprise, absolutely no-one else showed up. I waited 15minutes before getting bored and decided to brave the crouds back into the tube. On my way back into the station, I bumped into
orona_red so we decided to go to Oxford Street / Tottenham Court Road. Unfortunately, we went on the Northern Line instead and so went to Camden.
At Camden, had a nice chocolate crepe from one of the stands in Camden Lock before Orona got called away by his other half. Wondered around Camden on my own and picked up another Lab 4 album from Cyberdog, this time, Devilution II. Walked back up to Virgin and picked up a copy of Killa Kela - The Permanent Marker (Technically hip-hop, a genre I don't usually buy but I bought this because I heard the guy on Radio 1 beforehand. Basically he makes all sorts of instruments with his mouth... is quite amazing :).
Caught the train to Kentish Town at around noon, not really expecting anyone else to be there but it turned out that Vexen, Camrath and his other half were there. Others later arrived and talked about geeky RPG things which I don't have a clue about or any interest in. time went slowly but soon more people arrived that I knew and had a natter. To be honest, I found the meet this time round to be quite dull. My plans for going to Pizza Hut went nowhere as people wanted to go with Orona to Nando's.
Come 4pm myself and some others were getting hungry and bored so we left for Nando's. In the end only myself, Orona, Russett,
Budrick,
acefox and
Nomad attended in the end. I've never been to a Nando's before and I have to say that it was actually quite nice. Without going into too much detail, basically they sell chickeny things such as chickeen wings, chicken burgers or plain old bits of chicken. Once you have selected your meal, you chose how hot you want it ranging from lemon and herb to extra hot! I went got grade 2, medium and enjoyed the meal as it wasn't too spicy for me (I'm crap with really spicy food).
Went back to the pub to find the number of people there had reduced dramatically so myself, Nomad and some others ventured off to Namco to finish the day off. I was pleased to see that they actually had some new games, especially House of the Dead 3! In House of the Dead 3 you play with a pump action shotgun rather than a pistol. This is a great idea in theory as you have to pump the gun to reload the gun and it fires just as fast as the pistols ever did. However, due to the weight of the thing, it really makes the "pumping" arm ache. Come to the boss of the 3rd stage and we were both knackered and promptly died. Had a go on Sega Rally 2 only to find that it wasn't linked at the last minute. Had run out of cash by this stage and so folks just decided to go their own way home.
As I say, this was one of the most boring meets I've been to despite the fact that there were many people I like talking to there. I think that my feeling of the meet comes across in what I've written above... not exactly the most interesting read is it? I blame the fact that we were double booked again. Apparantly the people who had it had paid a lot of money to have it when we pay nothing so of course they take presedence over us. That's fair enough as we can't really do anything about it. If it happens more often however, we may need to start paying for the room...
