First day back at work
Aug. 11th, 2003 09:23 pmI've only been away a week but it seems like an age. This is a good sign, it means that I was sufficiently relaxed during my week away that I was OK with the fact that I had to face work again.
I was hoping that the weather may have given me a bit of a respite for my return to work but alas, it was not to be. It was at least 32C in London today. Fortunately, we had loads of desktop fans whirring away as well as an air conditioning unit (which didnt do much good as we have no doors in our office (apart from the main entrance of course) but it was nice to stand in front of).
I settled in quite quickly and piled off all the stupid things that had been left for me to do. I was doing emails today meaning I wasn't on my PC but apparantly something had infected my PC during the time I was away. My PC is often the scape goat for whatever network problems we're having because the people responsible for our network know less about computers than I do and Iwill usually have to prove them wrong. It seems they fear my PC due to the stuff I install on it to help me do my job and think I'm up to no good. I don't think they'll ever get over the time when I copied the source code for our main product from a developer's PC to my own ;). Anyway, it seems that for once, it was my PC causing the problems as my IP was at the top of the firewall's list. The decision was to reinstall my PC in the end as is often the cause of action in our company. Rather than see what's going on, just reformat and hope it goes away...
The journey home was delayed as expected but somehow I was only 10mins late arriving home which I was quite suprised about. hopefully, there shouldn't be any heat related delays tomorrow as the temperature in London is set to drop according to BBC. However, I should be able to claim at least £50 back off my season ticket for the disruptions during last week that I didn't even have to endure ;)
