Friday
After work, I went off to
Glis' place with the intention of getting drunk. After some delays at East Croydon due to vandalism (I get all the fun with trains don't I?) I finally meet up with Glis. We fill up with fish and chips before hitting the town.
Went to a place called the Qu bar which was basically a pub but with 5 pool tabled. Played 5 or 6 games, of which I won 1, think I pissed off Glis somewhat due to my shite playing and general inability to keep the balls on the table... dunno why but I was just generally playing worse than I usually do. However, when I composed myself and tried not to be so silly, I did get a bit better. I had to stop drinking cos I felt full but it turns out it was just gas (we were drinking Stella so it's unsuprising). However, we never really got as drunk as we intended. Wakled back to another pub and had a nice chat with glis before going back to the house and listening to much Bonzo Dog Band music.
Bonzo Dog Band were a group from back in the 60's who excelled in making hilarious, mad music and lyrics. The pure insanity of some of their stuff could be compared with Monty Python, however they were about years before Monty Python did their stuff. I must get their CD boxset, Cornology considering I don't have a record player :)
Saturday
Before going to the pub for the meet at first, we went down to Soho as Glis was after a record cleaning cloth. Went in this nice record shop called Selectadisc where Glis got some albums and I got the new Fluke album and a Prodigy mix album on CD. Also got Jam on DVD for £8 in the Virgin sale which I was pleased about as the Southampton branch had run out before I had the chance to buy one.
Got to the pub around 2ish and was rather overwelmed by the number of people there, or more accurately, the number of people there that I couldn't put a name to. It wasn't exactly a poor turnout, it's just that a huge number of people I hadn't sene before had suddently started coming to the meets. I normally make an effort to at least find out who people are but they all looked rather unapproachable and so just generally kept my distance and clung to those I knew.
Also, I had to leave early in order to get home in time for a family meal at a restaurant so I was kinda restricted as to what I could do. Was going to play pool even after my abysmal performance yesterday but ended up not going and having a further drink. Ended up with Glis, Ayres and Bhav, I wanted to walk around and mingle but there just wasn't anyone else I wanted to talk to there. One break from the norm was that some guy came out of the bogs wearing a really nice fursuit. No idea who it was but it made a change from Tippus' goddamn awful "fursuit" that he likes to wear.
Decided to make my move at around 4.30pm only to find that the trains were totally screwed going to Southampton with cancellations and engineering work causing havoc to my journey. However, I was able to get back in time for the meal, just had to go an awkward route.
On reflection, not a brilliant meet but that was mostly my fault for having to leave so early. Was good to see Glis again and keep him company considering he's been feeling rather down of late due to being on his own. Time for bed now.
