Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
May. 2nd, 2004 11:04 pmWent to the cinema this evening to go and see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I knew I wanted to go and see it from the first time I read that Charlie Kaufman (Of Being John Malkovitch and Adaptation fame) and Michel Gondry (Famous for many fantastic and ingenious music videos) were doing a project. These two had collaborated before on a film called Human Nature, which... wasn't that great to be honest, so I had my reservations on the film. However, I was happy to see that on this occaison, the two worked really well together and have provided a very strange, clever, beautifully shot film. The premise is rather simple, a couple break up and they use a technology to erase the memories but there's a lot more to it than that. Don't want to go into it really as it will spoil the film for anyone who wants to enjoy it with a fresh mind. (I guess if the technology existed, I could tell you all about it and then you can erase those memories before going to see the film ;)
I'm back at work tomorrow as I don't get bank holidays off which is a bummer. Shouldn't be that busy though but it'll seem like a wasted potential day of doing stuff. My bro suggested going to London which I had to turn down as I've not got the day off. In a related note, I've decided that I really need a holiday. I need to fly off somewhere different for a while. Can't really take any holiday until I've completed my probationary period at work (End of May) and even then I won't be able to afford much (due to my aforementioned impulse purchase). Certainly won't be able to afford AnthroCon again which is a shame as I really enjoyed my trip there in 2002. Then again, what I did in the time surrounding the con made it a good time for me, not just the con itself. I have spoken with
nonezumi about the idea of going to Amsterdam which could be fun. No idea when it'll happen though.
In other random news, I went out Saturday night with some friends of my brother who I later learnt, know my boss and stuff. It's quite a small world really. We went to the pub at 8 until closing time and then went on to a goth/alternative club called The Nexus. Was a great evening out, I don't go out enough... :P
