D'oh!

Managed to make a right fool of myself this morning. As I got to my train station, I noticed that my train was just arriving. I had to make a sprint to get on it. Once on, I found a seat and put my headphones on. We arrived at Southampton on time so I didn't have any reason to worry at this stage. However, once we left Southampton, I noticed that the scenery outside my window wasn't what I normally see. In fact it looked suspiciously like the Portsmouth route. My heart sank at this moment fearing the worse and so I asked the guard... My suspicions were confirmed, I was on the wrong train and was now going in the opposite direction to work! I had to get off at Fareham and get the London train to get back to work. I finally got to work an hour late and felt a right plonker. Luckily, I didn't get in trouble for it as my boss was out.

I had no reason to suspect it was the wrong train, it was the right type of train and it arrived at the right time. I later learnt that all trains on that route were delayed by 30 mins, hence it arrived when I expected the other service. I'm also to blame for wearing headphones so I couldn't hear the announcements... I won't make that mistake again in a hurry!
