Halo 3

So I've been playing the new Halo game most evenings since it's release, and I've thought that playing the single player game is OK but it's nothing amazing. The gameplay can be a bit linear and the later levels can be tedious (well I'm on the 8th level of 9 at the moment). I felt it hadn't really lived up to the hype. However, when you add online to the equation, it becomes a totally different beast. Online play is just so much fun.

You can play with 3 other friends (even on the same console) through the single player game to make it more interesting and social, and then there's the actual online skirmishes. This evening, I found myself playing with up to 12 people either from my friends list or friends of my friends and had a heck of a lot of fun and made some new friends. Had much more fun than I ever had with Halo 2. I think the best aspect is the fact I am playing with peoiple I know, but then even when playing with random people, it's been a really fun experience. There's a lot of variation in gameplay and rules. My only complaint would be a relatively small number of maps, but I'm sure download content will be forthcoming (hopefully not at too much of a cost). Beyond the game, you can go back into your most 25 most recently played games to either grab snapshots or record your own film of the gameplay as a momento. These can all be uploaded o the Bungie site where it also stores indepth records of every match you've ever played.

So in a nutshell, if I had to review this game, I'd say if you don't play online and havn't played the originals or are that bothered with the story, stick to Bioshock. However, if you do play online, it's possibly he most essiential 360 game of the year. I can see myself playing this online a lot!
