ADSL go bye bye :(
Apr. 23rd, 2008 07:29 pmWell I knew it was happening, but didn't expect it to happen until overnight as it was working this morning, however I came home from work to find the DSL has now been cut off. I should be able to place a new order for broadband tomorrow at least, I'll be using my Vodafone 3G USB modem until my new order for broadband is complete. Problem is, I checked out Be Broadband and despite the fact I get almost 7mb on regular ADSL (MAX) technology, they tell me due to the length of my line, the best I can hope for on Be is 5mb... Now when I was with BT they never consistently provided 7mb anyway, it was more like 2mb in the evenings (or .5mb after they capped me) so I expect Be to be more consistent with their speeds. There's also the chance it could be higher than 5mbit and also because it's ADSL2+, I'd get 1.3mbit upload. For that reason, I still expect to go with Be as it seems it's still going to be the best I can get in this flat.
Obviously despite the fact I've 3gb montlhly allowance on the 3G modem, I expect to be rationing my online time more so probably will do things other than sit in front of the TV while connected to the net via my laptop. I may well do something more productive like redesign a few sites like I had planned to before as I've now got hold of Dreamweaver and Fireworks CS3. One thing tho, with this 3G modem, Vodafone have content control enabled by default, presumably to prevent kinds from accessing naughty stuff and also other ports like ones Trillian uses to authenticate itself as a genuine copy. I had to call up to disable it... he probably thought I was a perv :P
