Updates to Furmeets UK
Dec. 7th, 2008 07:51 pmCall it procrastination from cleaning the kitchen, but I've been working hard today on some improvements I've wanted for sometime for Furmeets UK.
budlite's help at one point for a bit of Javascript help (Thanks Budrick!). One of the most annoying things with the Google Maps API is that if you have one character out of place or incorrect, you get no error messages, just a blank space where the map should be. This meant that in terms of debugging, you just have to revert changes and work out what broke it...
In terms of improvement, I'd like to make the homepage look a bit more elegant as it's rather untidily all in one column at the moment. The other thing I need to work out is how to get the co-ordinates from a clicked location on the map into the co-ordinates box on the add meets page.
Edit: I had a go at making a revised layout. Cheating using tables as it'd take me infinitely longer to do with CSS:

Have a look for yourself at http://www.furmeets.co.uk/index_wide.php. It gets everything on screen but still looks a bit disorganised. What do people think?
- New: Added a Google Map of the UK to the homepage which shows all upcoming meets.
- Updated: Improved the maps on the event pages to show markers of where the meet is happening.
- Updated: Added a map to the add meets page to make it easier for people to work out the co-ordinates.
