I really enjoyed the film Crank with Jason Statham. Found it to be a fun action movie which didn't take itself too seriously. However Statham has now revealed there will be a sequel despite the main character falling out of a plane and falling onto a road without a parachute. However they're saying he didn't actually die from this O.o (sorry if you've not seen it and I've spoiled the ending but it has been out for a while now). To quote Empire:
Talking about the shaven-head, plain-taking purveyor of ass-whippery, what’s he got coming up then? Well, aside from a remake of Death Race, there’s sequels to The Transporter and Crank in the works – but hangon, didn’t the brilliantly named Chev Chelios die at the end of the original Crank? How does that work then?

“It works because we want it to work,” said Statham. “He lives at the end - if you look closely you can see a little blink and hear a little heartbeat. He gets shovelled off the street and slung into the back of a van and the rest I can’t tell you. It’s a continuation straight from the end of the last one.”
Now I know it didn't take itself too seriously like I said, but having him survive that drop and the Beijing cocktail he was given is just ridiculous... I'm sure the heartbeat and blink were just in jest. Ah well I read this and thought that this is another weak idea for a sequel but I may be surprised yet.

Actually that completely fits in with my take on the film; I always beleaved he 'survived' in the end.

Just think back to the sequence in the cab and the 'Haitian shit' he consumes. After that he gets positively impossble to kill.

Guys a zombie, dude.

Hmm, while the film was silly, it never became supernatural :P

I'm looking forward to the Death Race remake myself. *waves around his copy of the original!* Bwahah.

All Hollywood does is make sequels and remakes. Though it'd be interesting to see a modern Death Race, though I'm not sure if they could get away with what they did in the original film.

Woo! I knew they'd make a sequal when I first saw it in the cinema. To me the heartbeat and the blink was a sign that there at least could be one. :)

Well, take a look at what happens in the back of the cab. Quite apart from all the psycadelic imagery, we see him waking up, having been 'asleep'.
Since the whole premice of the film is that if he even pauses he's dead, that nap should of killed him, unless he died and was reborn.
That sequence also occurs just before the third act, which is the traditional rebirth point in the hero paradigm.
