Since sometime Thursday afternoon, my sites went down taking my email accounts with it. This turns out to be due to a catastrophic failure with the server my site was hosted on. It's still down now butallegedly it will be restored at some point. I really hope I've not lost all the photos or meets stored in the furmeets.co.uk site as that will take a long time to rebuild. It's times like this I realise I really should be keeping my own backups rather than depending on my domain host.
The domain host in question is TopClassHost, one I've been using for a long time since Makali recommended them and hence a number of furs also use them and appear to be affected by this outage too. To be fair, this is the first time I've witnessed any such extended downtime as they're normally really quite good, but it does concern me they didn't have another machine on standby they could just transfer the most recent backup to and restore it as the original machine while they try to fix the fault one.
The message they've put on the affected sites currently reads:
Our sincere apologies for the disruption to your site. We have suffered a major hardware failure. Please contact us at helpdesk@topclasshost.com for more for more information. Thank you.
Please accept our apologies for lateness of our responses to your urgent requests. We have all staff on hand but due to the enormity of the task we face, we are having difficulty replying in a reasonable time frame.
We are doing everything we can to get you back online and won't rest until we do so.
We have made significant progress through the night but still have many accounts to bring back online.
Probably just as well I hadn't uploaded my ConFuzzled photos as I'd probably only have to re-upload them again. I was meaning to write a post about my time at ConFuzzled once I had sorted my photos but I got waylaid by editing the ConFuzzled video from footage I recorded with my TZ10. Anyway, I'm off to a LondonFurs Meet now which should be a lot better than the last meet I went to due to there being lots of people I know in attendance. See you there if you're going! Hopefully my site will be restored on my return home...
