We go to Anthrocon today! Wooo!
Jul. 11th, 2002 09:00 amYep this day has finally arrived! Can't wait... but seeing as I'll have to wait due to the lack of being able to accelerate time, I'll write down what I've been up to this holiday so far before I forget :P
Sunday:
Got to the airport at 11:15am, plenty of time to be able to get the best seats and have time to wonder around the airport.
bhavfox was being late however. The travel agent quite clearly said we had to be there 3 hrs before departure... I kept on calling Bhav about every 5 mins, finding out where he was, me getting more stressed out all the time. I told Bhav that if he didn't arrive by 12:30, he will have missed the plane - truth was that we could check in up until 1:30 but Bhav has no sense of urgency and so wanted to stress him a little into getting there quicker. At around 12:15, there was still no Bhav so I just decided to join the massive queue and hope that Bhav got there by the time I got to the end. At around 12:40, Bhav finally arrives with his folks while I'm almost at the front of the queue so Bhav gets to skip the queue :P.
When checking in, they give us the customs and visa waver cards that we need to fill out upon arrival into the states. There was one problem however, we had to fill in the address where we were staying. We hadn't got
white_wolf's address or phone number and so we were getting quite worried about what we could do. Then Bhav came up with the idea of putting the AC hotel. Perfect! We managed to get ourselves online and jot down the address. Whew! :)
As we didn't have much time, we went through passport control and the metal detectors (First time ever they didn't have to search me!), Bhav bought himself a Gameboy Advance and then we made our way to our gate.
Plane got delayed but once in the air, it was a fairly non eventful trip. Where we were late checking in, we had the last pair of seats available - between two old people in a row of four. Was a pretty noneventful 7hour journey. The only noteworthy things were that they served Chicken Tikka Masala on the plane (Best airplane food I've had ever!), the games part of the inflight entertainment system was useless cos the controller was busted and there was a spoilt american kid behind me who kept on kicking the chairs and poking his foot through the gap between the chairs... Bhav had been wearing his bunny ears during the entire flight. They must have been invisible or something cos no-one seemed to mention them until the end of the flight where the stewerdess thought Bhav looked cute :P
Anyhoo, after disembarking the plane, going through passport control, realising out visas weren't fillout correctly, sorting that out, collecting baggage and going through customs, we spotted WhiteWolf and
nomadfox immediately due to WhiteWolf's ears :)
Um, we then picked up the car from the car park and drove off to collect
mikazo who was staying with a relative nearby but is from Colorado before driving off to Friendly's and then to WhiteWolf's place. It was prettly late by the time we got there so we just had a brief tour of the house before going to bed.
Monday:
Can't remember what we did apart from have a BBQ. Met
arychan and
chapeljax, friends of WhiteWolf who lived locally. The food was really great - nice to have authentic american burgers and stuff and also discovered Vanilla Coke which I promptly got addicted to and downed 5 cans.
mi1ez arrived later with a friend (Can't remember the name sorry! Jamal?) but they were too late for much of the food so we just talked about loads of stuff. The main reoccuring theme of conversation always seems to be about how things are the same yet different between the USA and the UK...
We ended the day with much PS2 and GBA playing and got to sleep pretty lateish.
Tuesday:
Today, we were to visit the Six Flags New England theme park. However, where we all went to sleep late, we all woke up at around noon. We dropped off some stuff at Ari's place before going to Dunkin' Donuts for a brekfast bagel. Next stop, Six Flags :D
Six Flags was pretty cool apart from the fact that all the rides were really short and I didn't get to see any characters all day :( The rides we did go on were generally very good. My favourite had to be the Superman ride due to it being the biggest coaster there :). Nomad however wasn't having so much fun. Dispite us asking him every 5 minutes if he was OK, he threw up all over the Buzzsaw ride so they had to close it and then later, after the Superman ride, on the Joker ride (A really gentle ride in comparison). Nomad will never live that down :D Picked up some stuff in the gift shop such as a Sylvester t-shirt (Which I later learnt was too small for me :( ) and also a plushie. Also got a nice group photo of us all at the park :)
After the park, we went to Ari's to swim in her pool. However, the weather was thinking otherwise and rained heavily. WhiteWolf was still going to swim even though it was raining but Ari's ex-boyfriend showed up and so we decided to make a quick exit to the mall.
We got to the mall within 30mins of it closing but that was OK as I got to visit the Hot Topic shop and buy me an Invader Zim t-shirt :D
Wednesday:
This was due to be a bit of a free day so WhiteWolf could make me a tail and ears. Around 5ish, we went to Six Flags so I could get my t-shirt switched over but the place to get a pass was closed so WhiteWolf couldn't get in for free. I'll leave that until Monday.
We picked up Jax and went to a pet store where they sold every kind of Sobe you could imagine. I was like a kid in a candy store as we only have about 5 flavours in the UK and chose 6 varieties to buy. Next stop was Michael's, an art and crafts store where it was Bhav's turn to be like a kid in a candy store. He bought lots of Prismacolor stuff and we all got an art pad cos they were cheap and decent (Special offer).
Next stop was the Holyoke mall were we went to play DDR. Fortunately, there wasn't too many people playing on it but those that were were amazing. I had a go and realied how rubbish I was but got better after a few goes. Was a shame cos everyone I was with were either extreme beginners of had not played at all... After getting chucked out at closing time, we went to the Outback Steakhouse where we all had large steak and Nomad even managed to finish it :D. I bought beer just cos the others couldn't as I was the only one with ID :P Bud is ok but still prefer Stella.
Thursday:
Got up early and wrote this. :D
I'm off to pack for AC now. Bye!!!
