Amazing yet really useful mobile service!
Aug. 23rd, 2002 10:36 pmIn my weekly b3ta newsletter, they mentioned a service run by www.shazam.com claiming that you can play music to them and they'll text you with the name of the track you were listening to. I couldn't see how it could work and so I decided to give it a go by playing Blur - Song 2 to it. Sure enough, within seconds of playing the music down my mobile phone, I got texted back saying that the track was Blur - Song 2. I was quite amazed and impressed at this so I went to show my brother who was watching a Back to the Future DVD featurette thingy. I put the phone up to the speaker while the documentary was blabbing away with the music in the background and promptly got texted back with Huey Lewis and the News - Back in Time! Simply amazing! I didn't expect it to get it cos it was only a short clip or music (less than the 15 seconds) and had talking over it yet it still got it!
I can see this being really useful cos I can always be watching something or out someplace and wonder what the music playing is but no-one would know. Now I can find out - fantastic. Also, they log all of the music on a web site so you can buy it later (Or search for the MP3 of it ;). It costs 50p a time but this time I think the price is justified considering what it does.
(Note: Only works in the UK ;)
No this is not an advert for them and I don't work for them or anything, I'm just dead impressed!
