I got hold of the new 3DMark03 benchmarking software today, just to see how cool the demos and stuff would look. Unfortunately, it turned out that my system was too crap to do anything the new benchmark did smoothly. The best mark I could get was a 3DMark of 557.

Comparing this with people with a similar systm to mine, I learned that there was a new driver available which isn't on the NVidia site as it's a beta and also that you can overclock the Geforce4. So I got hold of the driver, found out how to overclock the card (is just a registry patch) and played around with the settings.

I first attempted the same overclocked speeds that the best mark produced at 300mhz but my system can't be cool enough for this as the graphics went very strange and slow. Through trial and error, I found that the optimal settings for me were 290mhz core and 580mhz memory clock. I now get a 3DMark of 1198! That's double what I got before :) Not quite as good as the top score of 1502 with my setup but it certainly made me happy. If you're registered on the FutureMark site, you can compare with my system using this link: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=224568

I should probably go and try Unreal 2 again now as my system should be fast enough to handle it now :)

I got 2700 which is pretty good I think :P

However, don't expect to get fantastic results from an Nvidia system. ATI was the biggest contributor in terms of funds to make the software so it's coded to work better on ATI cards anywhoo...

*Now* who's geeky? ;)

2700?! Blooming heck, that's quite a bit. I thought you had a Geforce4 yourself but of the Ti4600 variety . Guess you must have a much better processor than I :P

Yeah, my brother told me about the ATI thing. It also works better on an Intel when compared with an AMD so it doesn't produce fair results. Ah well, I'm not expecting my PC to produce the best marks, however I was able to use the result to compare with someone using the same set up as me who got better marks and see where I was going wrong, so it's all good in the end :)

Mine's not the Athlon XP 1ghz, it's the bog standard Athlon 1ghz. But damn, that score must be impossible... You got a "compare" link for it from the futuremark site?
