Yesterday I chose not to go to the LondonFur meet. A number of reasons led to me making this decision. Firstly of course, there was the money issue, secondly I felt like a change from meets as the last one was particularily boring and the majority of people there just irritate/embarrass me, and thirdly, my brother had invited me to go along with him to a LAN party.

I was up last the night before freeing up hard disk space and installing many multiplayer games, setting them up, etc and so when I got up at 8am, I was particularily groggy. Packed the computer and bits into the car and set off to get there shortly after 9am. En-route, I got myself a nice brand new Logitech MX500 optical mouse as my RF mouse was becoming increasingly more irritating. Was on special offer from Argos so that made me was good :)

The venue was a small town hall in a place called Bursledon. There was basically a largish ring of tables and a big stand at one side of the hell with a big plasma screen on it. There were a number of people there already, but not many. Anyway, I mostly kept quiet as my bro knew the people there and I didn't. I set up my PC quietly and booted it up. My PC was the only desktop style (rather than tower style) case there and so looked out of place. No-one seemed to mind about this and I got no snidey jokes about it so all good so far.

Over the course of the day, we mostly played Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003. I seemed to be one of the best at UT2003 which suprised me really as I expected these people to be pros. There was only one person who really gave me any trouble who used the handle "EatMyMeat" but he left soon after lunch. I myself was using the handle "AFX" which sounded cool and had relevance to me (Is one of the many artists names which Aphex Twin used and I was wearing an aphex Twin t-shirt ;).

Lunch consisted of takeaway pizzas which we all chipped in a fiver for. The pizzas were a bit on the cack side but they were food non-the-less. I tried to get folks into a game of Counterstrike but to my suprise, the majority of people there didn't know how to play it! Here I was under the assumption that 95% of people who play PC games online were playing Counterstrike... obviously not these guys ;) I took advantage of this and mostly dominated that until they got bored saying "I don't like having to wait for the next round to start after dieing". also, we never got a game of BF1942 in as the server for it was acting up. Hopefully that will be fixed for next time as playing BF1942 with a room full of people is a fun experience.

We wrapped up around 5.30pm, the day went very fast indeed. I'll most likely attend the next one, that is assuming my bro goes, otherwise I have no transport to the place (I'm not gonna lug a PC and monitor on a bus... :P ).

I invited a friend to go see Adaptation later that evening as I had 2000 Nectar points which translate into 2 free Odeon tickets.

Adaptation has got to be one of the most clever films I have ever seen. You simply do not know where the reality ends and the fiction begins. It could be all a real record of what happened apart from the fact that Donald Kaufman is a fictional character. That said, the film could be a totally fictional piece. It just makes my brain melt trying to understand it all. I won't give away any more as this was probably too much already. I recommend it to all people who enjoyed Being John Malkovitch or just generally appreciate intelligent films.

In other news, today I was impressed to learn that I have 12days, 4hours & 8mins of music on my hard drive :)

Ahh, Adaptation. Upon leaving the theater I gave it a B but its one of those movies that dance in your head for a good long while. Makes you think deeply about it, about how the mvie did just what it said it would, Adapt. I think I'll give it an A now, because its very rare to find a movie that makes you think anymore

It's one of those films you can discuss theories with your friends after seeing it trying to understand it all :)
