Another uneventful day really but I got some things done. I really hate filling out forms and so had put the forms for my new bank account to one side for a while now. So I got them done and also I filled out the form to get me a £30 rebate on my GameCube.

Following on from yesterday, I called up a local driving instructor who really does seem to know what he's on about and he knows the area. Unfortunately, he doesnt work Sundays which is a kind of a blow. He can only work Saturday mornings. £18 an hour but that appears to be the going rate these days. Not bad I suppose. After the call my Dad seemed to have a go at me for wanting to learn to drive because he says once I pass I have to get a car so I don't forget how to drive and I'll have all the taxes, insurance, etc. He really wanted to put me off :-/ I was already not brimming with confidence in the idea and it seems he's successfully put me off. Maybe I should wait a few months and re-evaluate my financial situation. To be honest, I think my Dad's just worried that I'll want to borrow more money off him...

Driving is a very expensive habbit and the only reason I learned to drive and can still drive now is cause my parants gave me the car. It's insured in my mothers name for all drivers thus saving me about £500 odd on cover.

You need to be a bit careful. The first-named driver, the one on whose record the premium is based, has to be the principal driver of the vehicle.

OK, the insurer probably won't notice, but if they did, they could refuse to pay up if anything went wrong.

Driving isn't that easy to forget. I know plenty of people who got their licence before university, but only got a car after graduating. OK, you'd be a little rusty at first, but it would come back pretty quickly.

Maybe taking just one refresher lesson, or going out with a driving friend in the passenger seat the first time, would make sense, but beyond that I wouldn't worry.

At least take a lesson or two now, so you know what it feels like to be in control of a moving vehicle. (-8
