My weekend

slycatI was initially worried that I would be wasting another weekend not doing anything but I managed to get out and have fun afterall.
Yesterday, I went to see The Hulk with my bro, in Portsmouth. I had heard it wasn't very good from people already but upon seeing it, I only realised how bad it was. It seemed like they really didn't know how to make it into a feature film and realised the deadline was approaching andso they should just put out what they had already. The first 2hrs were rather drawn out and dull for an action film, the story not really going anywhere and then the last 10 minutes, you get what hasn't been in any magazines or trailers so far, you get the mutant thing (that's all I'm saying so I don't ruin the 'story' any further) battling the Hulk. It all happens too quickly and it's too fecking dark so you can't see what's going on! In other words, quite a disappointment.
Today, my brother and I ventured off to Bournemouth. Initially to have a go at the new F-Zero arcade game as it's apparantly the only place in the UK that has it at the moment. Yes, I know that's a sad reason but my bro wanted to see it as it's still a while before the GameCube version comes out and I was just greatful to have a reason to get out the house.
Anyhoo, when we got there, had some fish and chips before wondering about the city. I hadn't been to Bournemouth for like 10 years so I didn't really have any knowledge of the place. Fortunately my brother did and so he led me about. After wondering around the shops stopping only to buy a t-shirt, we stopped by the beach to admire the 'sights' before going on in search of the game that brought us there.
The game was supposed to be in Sega Park but when we got there and had a look around, we couldn't fin it anywhere. So I tried to bother my brother into a game of Virtua Cop 3 but in doing so, I noticed the F-Zero game. It was hiding behind the Dancing Stage games! I jumped over, strapped myself in (yes, it has a seatbelt), put my pound in and had a go. It was rather hard to get the hang of, the seat you are on sways ar you move so if you oversteer, it's really hard to stablise the vehicle. I eventually got the hang of it but I forgot the whole concept of playing F-Zero where you have to boost and stuff. In the end, I ended up in 12th place or something. Wasn't amazing but it didn't stop me having another go after my bro had a go. to be honest, I think I'll be better waiting for the GameCube version. Is fun but not at £1 a pop :P
Right, after all that, it was still around 2.30pm so we decided to go see a film at the IMAX cinema. We bought tickets for the 3.15 showing of James Cameron's Ghosts of the Abyss 3D as that was the best thing they were showing (they havn't even had The Lion King yet so they probably won't have The Matrix Reloaded until next year or something). We sat by the beach eating ice cream to pass the time before heading to the cinema.
Before the films started, they had this impressive demonstration of the hardware that they use for IMAX presentations, something they didn't have at the London IMAX. Possibly cos it was owned by Sheridan IMAX and not BFI. Anyway, after that we put on our 3D glasses and watched the film. It was basically about James Cameron and Bill Paxton going down in submarines to look at the wreckage of the Titanic while telling you about what you're looking at and what happened on that fateful night. The film was rather educational and stuff, it did feel like a film you'd watch at Disney Land as a part of a ride or whatever. Amazing, yet somewhat dull. The 3D effect made it a bit more interesting but 3D effects often don't wotk with me. Dunno why, I don't have wonky eyes or anything but still, at the end of the showing, I had developed a bit of a headache.
Film over, we decided to go home. However, our route home was just one huge traffic jam. So rather than go that route, we just turned off in the direction of some place we hadn't heard of in the hope of getting there via a back route. My brother would appear to have a good sense of direction as we drove via the New Forest and finally found ourselves at Fordingbridge. From there, my bro knew the route home so we were OK. It was fun driving off and not knoweing where it would take us tho, went through some very scenic scenery on the way so it was much better than doing the traffic jam crawl. It seems like the M27 was jammed at least all the way to Southampton so I'm really glad we didn't take part in that as it would have taken forever to get home.
So that's it, that's my weekend. Another 5 days of work to look forward to from tomorrow including a nice 2 hour commute each way. Oh joy... ¬.¬ I've said it before and I'll say it again, weekends never last long enough!

Agreed - scuttling through the minor roads to avoid a blockage on the motorway is often incredibly good fun. If it's a proper screw-up, the challenge can be immense, because lots of people are already using the obvious detour routes.
