So, how did I waste my weekend this week?
Sep. 14th, 2003 10:28 pmI had the choice of geekery for this Sat, it was either the LondonFur meet or the local LAN party. As there wasn't anyone I know going to the meet, I decided to give it a rest this time and meet up for a day of gaming. Unfortunately, barely anyone at all turned up, 6 in total at it's peak. A very poor turnout indeed. Need at least 10 people for a decent game of Battlefield 1942. Anyway, most the day was spent playing Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which despite only having 6 official levels considering it's a free game and all, is prooving to be a really fun team game. We also squeezed in a bit of Tron 2.0 multiplayer to try out the light cycles and the disc arena. It's fun but the novelty soon wears off. Would be interesting to have an 8 player light cycle game though :) However, I have been assured that next month's LAN party will have more people going cos they're actually advertising(!).
Today, I went to town and finally got me a copy of the Fight Club soundtrack. Been after it for ages but it's never been in stock... and I guess I've not been that bothered about it to buy it off the net. The rest of the day has been spent playing the full game of Tron 2.0 which is really gorgeous, sounds just like the film and really fun. The plot is interesting, if similar to the film but 20 years on and the objective is to defeat the virus that's corrupting the mainframe while excaping from the ICPs (the red people from the film). My only gripe is that I'm playing on "Normal" difficulty and it's prooving to be insanely hard! I'm so glad the game has quicksave/load functions :) I love the way they've designed the interface, where you have to download things from "archive bins" and you can get upgrades which you need to put into your memory to use so you can jump higher or get a new gun. Quite an original concept.
Been going through the local job papers and am still applying for jobs. I can almost feel that my lucky break is on it's way. I promised to myself that I'd have a new job before it's pitch black on the way and the way back from work. That time is almost up... I may not accomplish that but I do think I have a good chance of finally getting a new job locally before the year is out.
