Finally, some good fortune
Oct. 9th, 2003 07:21 pmUnfortunately, it's not job related but I've managed to sort out a few things (albeit minor things). Firstly, I've finally managed to sort out my .name domain, it now points to my web space and so I shouldnt need to alter that again. However, it did take three attempts to get my registrar to change my DNS settings and they charged me twice (which I've been assured will be refunded immediately) but it's finally doing what it should be. I've put up a silly holding page for the time being while I decide what to put up there. I won't give out the domain name here but that said, if you know my real name, you know my domain name.
Other things that cheered me up today was the late arrival of Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand for the GBA. It was released on 16th September in America but the people who were importing it for me took some time to get stock in so I almost forgot about it. Not had a great chance to play it properly due to the fact that it requires light to help you play the game. As it's winter and there isn't much daylight these days, it seems like really bad timing on the publisher's part for releasing it this late in the year. Regardless, I should be able to play the majority of it in the dark and do the bosses at the weekend or something :P
Lastly, I got my 64mb GameCube memory card today (16x larger than my original card O.o) which means that I can now play Pikmin properly. I've played the first two levels of it and can say it's an enjoyable, original puzzle/god type game. I need to play my way through it before the sequal comes out early next year.
Now for some good news / bad news:
Bad news - Half Life 2 now postponed until April 2004. Considering they said that it would be out September 30th right up until a week before the date, this is kinda taking the piss. Apparantly the recent delays are due to hackers downloading the source code meaning that the game has to be re-written... I've cancelled my pre-order for the time being until there's a more certain date.
Good news - Sara Cox looses the Radio 1 breakfast show. This is because she's lost almost 500,000 listeners since she took over the job from Zoe Ball. I was one of those listeners (how do they know? I dunno), I find Sara Cox impossible to listen to with her condescending baby talk and annoying DJing. I thought she wouldn't have lasted long but for some reason they kept her on. They're still keeping her on in fact as she's just swapping with Chris Moyles's afternoon show. Fortunately, this means I can now listen to Chris Moyles as I used to listen to him when I wasn't working in London and found him funny. That said, I would have rather she got the sack and Scott Mills took her slot (ahem!). I would generally rather listen to XFM as I enjoyed that while living in London but sadly, I can only listen to like 20mins of it a day as the signal drops out just outside of Woking. Of course, I could just listen to MP3CDs :P

Date: 2003-10-10 03:34 am (UTC)Radio one lost one listener the day they got rid of all the good DJ's and replaced them with the infantile bunch that are on the air now.
Mark and Lard are the only two decent DJ's left......WERE the only two decent DJs left until they dumbed down their act (and the records they play) for the kiddy audience.
Steve Wright still has the best afternoon show, even though it's on R2 now and not R1. The same format but for a slightly more mature audience, and he plays some good stuff from the 70's onwards, including a lot of 80's new-romantic music.
I think I'm getting old......
