Town, Shopping and Movies
Dec. 9th, 2001 08:14 pmWent into town today with a friend and wandered around shops. Wasn't really after X-Mas presents - more to see what's available and have a think about it. Saw some likely candidates.
During my browsing, I managed to buy me 3 CDs. The first of which was called "HelpAphexTwin 2.0 ...because you don't give a fuck" which I found in the Aphex Twin section. It's in fact by V/VM rather than Aphex Twin however. One great feature about the album is that it's a 3" mini CD which is kinda nifty. The music itself is a bit messed up as it sounds like remixed tracks with filters distorting the music. Not really inspired enough to find the 1.0 CD which was released at the same time but it's kinda neat for novelty value.
The second disc was Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children. Got it cos I'm a fan of most artists on Warp Records and hadn't got anything by them yet. I was told by reliable sources that they are pretty decent so I bought their CD. Sounds nice and chilled out.
The 3rd I came across by chance. I had previously downloaded 2 funny videos from Cartel Communique by Osymyso. One called "Peg 'n' Pat" which is a hilarious video made from bits from Eastenders and it revolves around a big ol' fight between Peggy and Pat. The second I was introduced to by Glis which was called "John's Not Mad". It's another mix of samples taken from a TV show but this time from a QED documentary about a boy with tourettes syndrome. The song features lots of random swearing along to a funky tune. Anyway, I spotted a "Osymyso" section in the dance section of Tower Records. In it was a CD album so I decided that I had to buy it. I'm listening to it at the moment and I can conclude that it is actually really good! Can't wait to see the guy make some more music.
After shopping, we went to see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I had seen the movie before as I had downloaded it but after seeing it a second time as it was meant to be see was awesome! You miss quite a bit with the downloaded versions. It's gotta be one of the funniest films I've seen this year. You will need to see the 4 previous films in the Kevin Smith series (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma) to get all the jokes throughout the movie. There was an amazing number of cameos from people from the previous films along with characters from the previous films and they all got the piss taken out of them!
See the first 4 films and then go see this movie!!
