Went along to yesterday's Londonfur meet and managed to get a few things done as well as meet up with the furs. Got into London about 12.40 and caught the tube down to TCR. I needed to get myself a replacement USB -> USB mini cable for my MP3 player as I had stupidly lost my previous one while getting my coat out of my bag on a train and not realising... Anyway, I knew a computer shop would do but I hadn't a clue what would be the place. I decided to have a look in the first place I came by, Micro Anvika. This was the shop in which I paid £70 for a Mac keyboard for
abinturongbinks all those years ago so I knew it was kinda pricey there. Anyway, I look through the cables and things and a salesman asks if he can help (christ, you're probably thinking why I'm going into this level of detail... not exactly interesting reading. Oh well..) and he found the very cable I was looking for. £13 for a poxy cable! Like the mug I was, I paid the money over. At least that was one job done.
The next was to have a look in CEX for a game called Quantum Redshift for Xbox. It's a game made by a company started by the guy who was part of the team who made Wipeout and was supposed to be effectively a Wipeout sequel in everything but name. That's what Edge said anyway, it also said the game was lacking in a decent soundtrack and the crap box design put people off. I remember reading in Eurogamer that it was a game worth getting hold of for new Xbox owners. Anyway, after a bit of digging, they had it for £4 :D. Bargain I thought so I got it. Task two complete. Had got everything I needed in TCR so went off to the meet...
So, yeah. The meet. When I got to the pub, I was welcomed by
furblefox at the bar as well as some other furs who I forget. Got myself a Kroney (bad idea) and did the mingling thing. Said hello to
rasetsugalford who promised to show me his trainers once I had gone and sat down. Joined
orona_red,
bhavfox,
yagfox,
timmypup and others. Mostly stayed put and got myself a pasta dish as I was still rather full from the previous day's feasting. Galford later joined us and got to have a look at the trainers he was selling. They looked pretty nice apart from the laces which are easily replace. Tried em on and they fit suprisingly so I said I'd take them off his hands. Got them for £40 which I consider to be a bargain as they're £70 new and I really don't like shopping for shoes. My Vans were rather worn out from being drowned one too many times... alas, I shall no longer be
xendragon's shoe twin.
Some undetermined time later, a bunch of us went off to Namco, for lack of anything better to do. Played Gothwolf at Outrun 2, beating him both times and completing the game on the second go. Admittedly, I did have a considerably unfair advantage because I not only have played the arcade game many times (mostly against
nonezumi), but I have the Xbox home version ;). Went downstairs to find people and found Galford,
growf,
makali and his other half. Had a game of DDR against Galford on 5 and 6 foot levels while Galford put on silly reverse speed up modes on to increase the challenge. I was totally knackered by the end of it but I got plenty of exercise out of it. Bruce and co left to go someplace, not sure, I think they were going to see a movie so I was left wondering around with Bhavfox and Furblefox. Went outside for some fresh air and Gothwolf joined us with his McDonald's salad. Loitered around outside for a while and Tim turned up with Masseuse and
Kei. Got kinda bored so I got myself a vanilla shake from McDs (first thing I've bought from them in about 8 months). Um... stood around a bit more chatting, Furblefox went off to Hamleys and I called up National Rail for train times. Had 30mins to kill so went back into Namco and joined furs in the seating area. Put on my new trainers and then left for the station.
I have to say, the trainers were suprisingly really comfy. They have some sort of gel insole type thing which squishes when you walk on it. It's called "Impact resistance" apparantly so presumably this means that your feet don't get sore from walking all day or whatever. I expect Galford got them with the intention of the shoes absorbing the blow of his DDR dancing ;). My MP3 player was still out of charge so I resorted to IRCing from my phone for entertainment. Finally got home around 9.30pm. Was quite a productive day even if I didn't really do much really. It was basically TCR, Pub, Namco, home. Ah well, I got the things I needed as well as meeting up with people, but more importantly it got me out the house. It's not done my bank balance any favours however. I shall be spending very carefully until the end of the month now.
