The obligatory Halo 2 post
Nov. 13th, 2004 06:35 pmOn Thursday 11th, the nice people from Simply Games delivered on their promise to have my copy of Halo 2 delivered on the day of release. From what I've heard in forums and talking to others, people who ordered from Play and Amazon weren't so lucky :). Anyhoo, Halo 2 isn't so much a game I've been excited about, I've got it more because my other friends on Xbox Live have all said they would be getting it and it would generally be a fun online experience. I had to weigh Halo 2 against getting Half Life 2 but as my bro is getting HL2, I got H2.
So, what do I think? Well, I've played through the first 5 levels of single player and have been enjoying it a lot. The level design is spectacular (especially compared with the former game) and the story isn't bad either. There's a nice array of weapons, vehicles, etc to keep me amused so it's all good. I've heard that the single player game is all over too quickly, but I'm not overly bothered about that cos there's online play for longevity.
I've had a go playing it online with
furyfox and Lomax and found myself dieing a lot. I need to get more practise playing the game. I mean the thing that gets me is the whole dual analogue controls when I'm used to using a keyboard and mouse. There's a huge array of game types which can be played online, alongside the normal deathmatch and capture the flag variants. Only downside to the majority of these game types is that they don't work well unless you have 4 or more players in the game. One thing I'm not too keen on however is the fact that you can only hear other people if they are nearby. One of the things I've loved about Xbox Live is that you can just natter about stuff whilst playing the game. However now, all you generally hear is "hahaha!" as you get killed. As I get killed a lot, this can become somewhat annoying... as it did last night. Anyway, I've since learnt that if you push the White button, you can talk to the whole "team" (not sure how this works in teamless games) even if they aren't close by.
So, if there's anyone reading this who is on Xbox Live and fancies an easy game, let me know and I'll give you my GamerTag if needs be :)
