Fursuit.co.uk Site Update
Jan. 13th, 2005 11:11 pmI'm pleased to announce that the photo gallery which I accidentally broke (in trying to fix it ironically) has now been recreated. Unfortunately, my hosting company didnt have an old enough backup (cos they didnt get my first email about the problem and I was lazy in emailing them again) so I had to recreate all the albums again. It wasn't too much of a task as I had managed to keep a backup of the photos themselves online, elsewhere in the site. So yeah, all the photos are back there, there are a few missing but I'll be uploading those again soon.
As far as other parts of the site I've been improving, the UK Fursuiters section. That was made with the help of a SQL database and PHP code to retrieve the results. I decided that this would be the way to go with the links because it means I don't have to manually move the columns down and change colours and stuff. I've also SQL/PHPised the custom made suits page for the same reason. It's built by combining two tables and so is the result of a rather lengthy SQL query. It's great that my host provide full access to this sort of thing, they even have PHPMyAdmin installed for maintaining the SQL databases easily. I really don't understand how this host can provide so much for so little... but anyway if you're interest (and I can't recommend them more), they are TopClassHost. With current exchange rates, they are even cheaper. This sounds like an advert for them... but I am just so impressed with the service (other than not responding to my email over the new year period... but I suspect I sent it in the wrong way).
Anway as for the future plans for the site, I will be putting all the remaining links into SQL tables and I'll eventually be changing the look of the home page and navigation to fit in with the look I've designed for the currently PHPised pages. I'm colour blind and as such often make bad judgements when it comes to colour schemes and stuff, so I'm probably going to keep it to a nice and safe (yet boring) grey colour scheme I expect. Once I'm done improving the fursuit.co.uk site, I need to move on to working on the slycat.co.uk site as it's very much out of date now (
xendragon had to email me to say the link to her site was wrong). Half the images and links are broken so time for overhaul.
I've been enjoying doing all this web stuff recently, I guess the bug has bitten me. Previously I make a site and get bored with it so never keep it up to date. I think in learning new stuff such as SQL and PHP, my interest should be kept in updating it and the like. Hopefully I should be able to use these skills at work too!
