Weekendage
Feb. 20th, 2005 11:51 pmAnd so another weekend comes to a close and again, it has passed by far too quickly. The problem is, if you fill the week with activities and stuff so you don't get bored, the 2 days pass in the blink of an eye. However, if you spend the days doing nothing and probably not even leave the house, you can't help but feel like you've wasted the time.
Anyway, on Saturday, I went to the
londonfurs meet. I met up with
xendragon at Waterloo and then automatically went into the underground. We then stopped and thought... "what do we want to do?". Xen ended up suggesting the Tate gallery. I hadn't been there before so I agreed. Now all we had to do was to find the place. It wasn't immediately obvious from the tube map but we knew it was on the waterfront of the Thames. On that alone, I suggested getting the boat from the Royal Festival hall. However, once we got there, the pier was closed. So instead, we just continued walking up the Thames until we eventially, by chance, came across the Tate.
The gallery itself wasn't as interesting as I was expecting. While some pieces were odd and interesting, most were just like "Why?". Maybe I don't have the correct way of thinking to appreciate modern art... but most of it was rubbish (hides from expected backlash). Needless to say, the gallery itself was gigantic and it was good to go at least once. What was also handy was that the gallery was just across the Thames from St Pauls, where the meet pub is.
Once at the pub, the meet was pretty much like any other. Although it was nice to see
hawx and
growf there amongst others. I had a Kronenbourg to start but then moved on to the poofy drinks - Bailey's Glide. I thought I'd try one as I hadn't before and it was rather delicious. I had 3 before leaving in the end :). Other furs I saw at the meet and chatted with included
bhavfox,
rasetsugalford,
arakinuk,
klepsydra,
gothicwhitewolf and
abinturongbinks.
After consumption of alcohol, the group I was with (Which consisted of Hawx, Xen, Bruce, Binks,
masseuse87,
orinotta and myself), decided to go to Camden as people were after stuff for clubbing at Slimelight later on. I didn't buy anything and mostly just followed after everyone else as I didn't want anything. We ended up at The Devonshire Arms pub, which for reasons unknown, just made me feel depressed. I don't know why but I never really liked that pub since the fur meets were held there. (So yeah, that's why I was looking a bit down at this stage).
After that my group were off to get food at Wagamama's before going off to Bruce's to prepare to go off clubbing. As Masseuse and I were not going clubbing, we went off to Namco. At Namco, I just sat in the sports bar and chatted with the random people who were there such as
stu_ath,
threetails,
d_raven,
petedarkfox and
horizon_otter.
agrajag_fur bought the group 3 bottles of Champagne which was unexpected but a very nice gesture.
I left shortly afterwards as it was getting on and I wasn't really doing much. I was quite suprised by the efficiency of the train journey home. Not only were there no engineering works for the first time in recent memory, but the trains all ran on time and I got home when I should have. I even got on the wrong train home (got on the Poole train rather than the Portsmouth one) but even though I had to change at Winchester to get on the train I would have been on, it all went rather smoothly.
So yeah, quite a good day. Was nice to see some old faces who I hadn't seen in far too long. Probably my favourite meet of the year so far. Now if only it wasn't bastard cold with all the wind, it could have been even better :P
PS. Thanks Xen for this new LJ icon - taken from the meet photos which are in the gallery, here.
