Today's meet was probably the first proper HantsFur (Hampshire based furs) meet in well over a year and to say the least, there was quite a large turnout. I'm sure that at some stage, we may have even been pushing 30 people, an attendance which I'm sure most people weren't expecting. The meet started off in a pretty disorganised fashion mostly due to the fact that there was no plan as such. Basically, all that was planned was that we were to meet at Sega Park. The furs who had no interest in DDR or were quickly bored with it (like myself), wanted to go elsewhere but those that did like DDR refused to budge. In the end a group of us buggered off for something to eat and ended up getting cheap filled baguettes for a place that had a special offer on.

By the time we had visited the park and consumed or baguettes, the other furs were still playing DDR. After some time later, we finally decided to go... somewhere. However, due to the sheer size of our group, there wasn't many places we could go. We all followed TK as we assumed he had an idea, however, he led us to the food court of the local shopping mall which was absolutely heaving with people as it at 1.30pm. After some discussion, we decided that Leisure World would be a venue far better suited to the number of people in our group.

Trying to get a large number of furs to move is like trying to move a brick wall. As it was proving difficult to shift the furs from the food court, a smaller group of us went ahead to Leisure World expecting the others to follow. However, we somehow managed to wittle our group down to 5, being Rapido, Bunni, BH and Matt Squirrel. Bunni was after food so we went to the extortionately priced Frankie & Benny's New York Itallian restaurant. I was still full from my baguette so I opted for a large drink of Boddingtons for my main course and followed it up with a chocolate sundae type thing for dessert.

By the time we had finished our desserts (some time after arriving considering the poor service we got), a number of other furs had arrived but not the whole lot. Turns out some furs had gone to TK's flat and so we decided to go down there too. It was hard to keep track of everyone I met but I did get the chance to meet a large number of furs I didn't even know lived in the area. It was quite interesting to see how much the Hampshire furry group has grown since I started it in March 2000. It was nice to meet everyone and I hope to see more of them again in the future as they live nearby. The afternoon and evening mostly consisted of random banter, food eating and gaming.

I called up National Rail to get the train times only to realise I had 20 mins to get to the train station. So I made my goodbyes and buggered off. Only when I arrived at the station, I realised that I misread the hours and it was in fact 10pm, not 11pm. Only had to wait around for 20mins so it wasn't that bad.

In reflection, I'd say it was a sucessful meet, however if we expect that sort of number in the future, we'll probably need to put a bit more planning into it or possibly even get a venue like the LondonFur meets. That said, TK's house is conveniently placed and of reasonable size to possibly serve that purpose. Next time round, perhaps a trip to the cinema will be in order, or maybe just go to Hotshots in Leisure World as they have a bar and it's relatively empty during the day.
