Yesterday's meet
Jan. 9th, 2005 10:49 pmSo, I went to the LondonFur meet yesterday. The trains in took much longer than normal to get in due to engineering works between Woking and Clapham somewhere. From my home to Waterloo, it took 3hrs... Anyway, when there, I met up with
xendragon and went off to St Pauls, where the furry pub is. First thing I did was indulge in some food before talking to the furs there. I noticed that I didn't know the majority of furs there. I found that in itself rather intimidating thinking I didn't want to know these strangers. I did have courage to talk to some new people such as Smaf and Shep but I mostly kept to the minority of people I knew. I was pleased to see that both
makali and
nonezumi (Glis) were there as I've not seen them in person for a while.
I found myself becoming rather bored at the pub and appreciated it when Makali was gatering a group to go to Namco (yeah, we always go to Namco but at least it wasn't the pub). In the end, Glis, Xen,
bhavfox, Alena, Makali and
miyabi went off, expecting
rasetsugalford and
mecklar to be catching us up later. At Namco, we went on the dodgems twice and then played pool. I lost my first game against Makali and almost didn't lose against Bhav. Time was getting on and trains were going to be a bastard getting home again so I had to leave around 8ish. Xen came with me so she could get some fast food at Waterloo before getting her train.
I'd like to say my train home was uneventful, but it wasn't. My train got terminated at Basingstoke due to an unfixable technical fault and so I had to dash over to the Portsmouth train on the other platform. Got that train with no problem but it meant I only had 6 minutes to make my connection. Fortunately, it was enough but it still took me the 3hours total travel time to get home.
Anyway, I was looking at my ticket and was trying to think if the £19 I have to pay to get to London now is worth the money. True, I get to see a larger number of people I know but it's not as if we do anything interesting. Plus I generally have to endure many of the random furs I didn't know misbehaving and such. In thinking about this, I came to the conclusion that I much prefer the more personal meets at fur's houses and stuff as everyone generally knows everyone else and if there's someone new, they get on ok and don't feel too nervous. Also as the groups are smaller, it's easier to go off and do something. If there's no-one I especially want to meet, I don't think I'll go to the next meet and save my money for seeing other furs. I need to go and see Glis sometime as Brighton is a great place.
In other news, I've figured out how to get my site to talk to a SQL database with PHP (yeah, I know it's simple to those who know how to do such things but I only just learnt how to do it from scratch) and so I have been able to reproduce the fursuiters page on the site by reading a database. It's much better to do it this way cos it means I just need to add an entry to the database rather than have to bother with moving images and things around. Need to work out how to make the background colours alternate and things but I'll think about how to do that tomorrow.
