slycat: (Human - Gurn)
Recently work's become more of a drag than normal.  The person who I car pool with to work has a new job so I have to make my own way in now.  I can either leave home at 7.30am to get to work at 8am (I start work at 9pm) and leave work at 5.50pm (I finish work at 5.30pm) and get home at 6.30pm when going by bus and pay £4.40 for the privilage, or I can leave the house at 7.30am to get to work for 8.45am and leave at 6.10pm to get home for 7.15pm if I go by train for £2.85.  Considering the extra time it takes to get the train, I'm more inclined to get the bus, however the bus can be unreliable at best and you've no idea if it's not running or is late...

Anyway couple that with the fact that we have been doing a lot of debt recovery recently.  Basically due to flakey billing systems, we have a lot of customers who have been using a service and not been paying for it.  Most of the payments were taken by worldpay and so when the payments fail, they are emailed about it by worldpay.  So for the customer who didn't do anything about resuming their payments, we've sent out a large number of letters requesting that they call in to give us their card details for the services they are using but not paying for.

As a result of these letters being sent out, the phones have been bombarded with people enquiring about the letters, or to make payments or to despute the payments with us.  This in itself has been an exercise in tolerance, however I've behaved cheerfully in the face of however angry the customer is (this really pisses them off further becuase they see their anger isn't having any effect).  While all these calls are coming in, I've been unable to do my support work which is what I do on a normal day.  Today I had to listen to a hundred voice mail messages and call people who needed calling back.  I feel like a secretary rather than a tech support engineer recently.

Whilst listening to these messages, I came across the following little beauty of a voicemail which cheered up my day.  It contains rather strong language so I don't recommend playing it too loudly while those who may be offended are nearby, you have been warned!  Get it from here.  Note how he didn't give his name or number so I couldn't call him back.  Shame, I might have enjoyed that call!
