Torture Garden event
Jan. 13th, 2006 09:01 pmFollowing on from
thalyi's post and the concerns raised by many on the list, I replied to the email asking about smokey conditions and hot environments. He's replied with the following:
Hi
Understand the concerns.
Well ultimately it is still a nightclub, although an unusual nightclub,
so there is some smoke, but no more than any bar / club / public social
occasion.
We have 5 rooms, so some areas are more smokey than others. There's
chill out areas and dance areas.
There is also air conditioning throughout so it does seem to keep the
air fresh, and as a non smoker I never really notice the smoke.
I can imagine how hot the suits are and have a friend who wore a full
bear suit to the club once.
But again there is air conditioning so the temperature is reasonable for
an inside event. And we have people wearing very little to full
enclosure rubber suits and masks etc.
Again there are dance areas and chill out areas so some hotter than
others.
If say 20 of you came officially, I could give backstage passes which
lead to a staircase going to the fire exit. This area is cold
(especially in February) and could provide 10 minute breaks to cool
down, take of the head pieces etc.
Unfortunately the backstage room itself is not so large and we have a
few shows to fill it already, but the backstage staircase would give
some time in a cool area if that helps.
Also the club doesn't get crowded until around 12.30am +, so if people
came early and were there from the beginning, the club is generally
quieter, cooler and less smokey.
Also I don't know if some people are scared of the fetish aspect of the
club? But generally the name of the club and peoples own imagination is
probably more extreme than the reality, and although the dungeon room
could be extreme for some people, 90% of the crowd are there for fantasy
and to dress up, be social, dance and have fun, and the main areas are
more like an adult fancy dress party.
Anyway - it's still a few weeks away, so have a think about it, and let
me know if you have any other questions.
We've had a few people come in full fur suits before, so it is possible,
and I feel the TG crowd would be very accepting of the fur suit crowd,
and think the costumes are great. I imagine it's very difficult to find
public places to wear them normally?
I'm still very paranoid about bringing my brand new suit to the event, I'd want something like the headless lounges you get at furry cons to cool down. I'd like to go but I'm very much in 2 minds about it.

Date: 2006-01-13 09:29 pm (UTC)Dancing around in fursuits in a nightclub environment is however EXTREMELY exherting, it's the most exherting thing I have ever done and you must have space where you can recover. It's pretty much 50/50 the time you spend dancing to the time you need to recover. You also need an endless supply of cold water!
Of course, you don't have to dance!
Another consideration is light levels, you lose 50% or more of your light intake through mesh eyes. If the light level is reduced, it can be very hard to see, and difficult without friendly help! :)
An event like that would be hot, difficult and uncomfortable, so only do it if you really want to! :)

Date: 2006-01-14 12:56 am (UTC)GO ON! Like Yag said - fursuits are only worth the money if you have fun in it. And if it all goes crap then we can all just leave! XD
COME ON!

Date: 2006-01-14 01:08 am (UTC)Suits are there to have fun in, but there are loads of better places to take them than a hot, sweaty, smokey environment like that. Dress up? Sure. Fursuits? Nope, definitely not for me & mine.

I've been to TG and it's ok - The venue, Mass, is big and easy to get lost in. There are smokey areas and non smokey areas, small rooms and big rooms. As far as I can rememebr the basement is pretty chilled out and there are sofas/seats where you can chill in a dark corner. It would probably get quite hot there tho. I was dressed in PVC when I went and was absolutely baking. Also it's not too easy to move around with big stuff on.
Having said all this - I'm well up for going and will do providing I have the funds and time of work along with suitable attire.
