Root Beer!

They so need to have root beer available over here in the UK.  By that, I don't mean via import places either.  Sure, Sainsbury's sell something called "American Root Beer" but I can assure anyone who's tasted it and thought it was nasty, that it is not Root Beer.  I don't know why it's not available generally over here.  I know many people get reminded of TCP or Germolene when they taste it in this country but the taste (Wintergreen) to me is delicious.

There's plenty other people like myself from the UK who like the drink as prooven by the number of UK furs who went for it as an option at restaurants and the like while in America.  I was reading up on the net, and allegedly ADSA sell (or at least used to sell) 6xcans of root beer made by a company called Carter's.  I can't easily get to an ASDA to check but I can't ever remember seeing the stuff at any time I've been to ASDA.  I don't know if anyone can find out...

Anyway, someone who feels the same as myself has set up one of those online petition's to get A&W Root Beer sold in the UK.  I doubt it'll come to much but I put my name down anyway in the vain hope it may make a difference.  Obviously it helps to spread the word of such a petition, so if you want to sign it, it's at http://www.petitiononline.com/rootbeer/petition.html

To alleviate my cravings, I've ordered 24 x cans of Barqs Root Beer (the caffinated one) for £14.95 from American Soda (much cheaper than CyberCandy who are £8 more expensive, and out of stock), which hopefully should arrive on Wednesday.

What I need is a contact in the US who can send me over stuff :P

I always prefered Barqs over A&W. :)

There's an A&W restaurant here in Glasgow that do root beer, is that what you mean?

Hehe, I had to take some Pepto-Bismol and I liked the taste for the same reason you disliked it :P

Yeah, I thought there was as me and [livejournal.com profile] xendragon walked past it when I was visiting but we didn't go in for some reason (Don't think I was feeling hungry or something). But yeah, that's the same brand, and so far, the only place I've seen in the entire country which sells it natively.

I kinda like them both to be honest, but I had imported A&W last time so I thought I'd import the alternative this time :)

Oh, I had no idea that was the only branch of A&W! Pity they don't sell the root beer in bottles, to my knowledge...

Well it's the only one I've seen or heard of in the UK. I tried searching Google quickly and I couldn't find out anything about A&W restaurants outside of the USA or Canada.

I like it but I can only drink a little before I find it too sickly.

Mountain Dew is in stock on the American Soda site. Great service and 10% off your first order! Jeez, they should pay me for this stuff :P

Ah, cool. It's nice to have it confirmed. I'll certainly be on the look out for the stuff next time I'm near an ASDA (admittedly I do pass one every day ont eh way to work but I'm on a bus at the time!).

Hello!

The online petition is mine, I've been having a bit of a root beer fuelled day today. When there are enough signatures up, I'm sending the petition to Cadbury-Schweppes, Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola. There just isn't any reason for there to be no root beer in England. Luckily, I live in Ashton-Under-Lyne and somehow there is an A&W restaurant here, so I can get draught root beer (and funny looks).

Thank you for your signature and for spreading the word, may I add you?

I got some of the Carter's root beer yesterday. While it is far superior to the stuff Sainsbury's are trying to pass off as root beer, it's still not quite as good as the American stuff. I think it's because even the Carter's one has sweetners in it.

FYI, I bought some root beer in ASDA yesterday. It's made by Carter's as [livejournal.com profile] miyabisan confirmed earlier. It is far superior to Sainsbury's "Root Beer", as in it's drinkable. However they still have some sweetners in it and so it isn't as good as the real American ones.

And yeah, feel free to add me, but I mostly write about furry related stuff :P

Ah, Carters! The one saving grace when I can't be arsed to drive to A&W (which is in an industial estate-type ground). It is also a great hangover drink. I'm also going to go and buy some 'Mawson's Sarsaparilla' as it is meant to be very good. Check it out: http://www.sarsaparilla.co.uk/stockists.html.

I probably give the impression I'm just someone who enjoys brews made from the roots of plants, but I'm not, honest!
