Just a brief update to say, for the first time in a while, I really enjoyed myself at the meet today.  Can't pin down exactly why I enjoyed it to be honest.  I mean I started the day by ripping the 3.5mm plug from my headphones while rushing for a train and also problems with the idiot ticket inspector who couldn't get what I wanted right.  Because of what happened to my headphones, coupled with the fact that I had 30mins at Southampton to wait for my connecting train, I popped down to the nearest place I could think of that could sell headphones which was Toys R Us and was able to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] bungle_bear as he had to work rather than go to the meet.

What probably contributed to my feeling of wellbeing was not having to go to the meet solo or with my brother.  I went up with [livejournal.com profile] paperkup and his friend who's name I can't remember and we watched [livejournal.com profile] bigbluefox's FC2006 video which I had transcoded for the PSP that morning on the way to London (was a good way to waste 2 hours).

Picked up a few sweets (including refilling on the lovely IceBreaker Fruit Sours which I got while in America) and a can of Raspberry Coke from CyberCandy prior to the meet.  The meet itself was very busy compared to normal. There were plenty of people there I enjoy the company of which helped me enjoy myself.  Also, thanks to the fact that there were fursuiters going to the Torture Garden event, there were loads (relatively speaking for a LondonFur meet) of fursuiters there.  Including [livejournal.com profile] dukefawks who came all the way from Holland to be there today.

After we got booted out of the pub, I ended up being seperated from most of the other furs as they were too indecisive as to what they wanted to do and so [livejournal.com profile] rasetsugalford and I ended up visiting Soho for the quirky Japanese arcade games they have there.  Galford camped it up on a free game of Para Para (and formed a rather large crowd outside the arcade from people watching) before we went to Las Vegas for a bit of DDR and Percussion Master! :)  Was nice to be able to chat with Galford on a one to one basis as you rarely get the oppertunity to do that with people at fur meets (I guess that's why I always liked staying over at Glis' after meets back in the good old days).

After that, we met up with the others at Namco before I had to get the last train home (leaving at 9pm).  I didn't get home until around 11.50pm thanks to engineering works...  I know I said this update would be brief and I guess I lied.  I really enjoyed myself at the meet and I will be popping down for the next one too.

Oddly enough, I had a blast just chatting away, playing Percussion Master (Damn you! I was humming View to a Kill as I was walking... ) and just generally chilling out.

Must admit though, getting to relax and talk to people like we did at Starbucks has kept me in a good mood all evening. Cheers for that! Here's to a few more good meets!

Ahh! Handy reminder about that video - downloading it now, albeit at a much more leisurely rate than you. :-P (Both A and B are only giving me around 20-40K/s. No biggie - I'll just leave it overnight)

I'll be looking forward to the Torture Garden reports from those who attended! Sounds like it's got the potential to be a pretty nifty event. Assuming it works out this time, maybe it could become a regular (quarterly?) event. By that time, maybe some more folks would be untensed about the whole thing, and go along themselves, or even make up dance costumes more geared for such, with close-fitting masks and lycra bodies. (Dancing in the fur, as you probably recall, tends to get sort of.. warm :)

got booted out of the pub

Hmmm... Hope that was just the normal "We're closing now" exit, and not an "...and don't come back!" one...

Yeah, it was a good meet, mostly, though a little loud at times for my old ears. Who were the fursuiters? I figured Emjen the otter, and Wolfpaw, but not who the bob-cat or the fox were.

By booted out, I mean we had to be out by 5.30pm as they had been booked for 6pm for another party.

The fox was [livejournal.com profile] foxb and the bob-cat was [livejournal.com profile] dukefawks, all the way from The Netherlands :)

I'm pretty sure he was a lynx, not a bobcat (tufty ears, little tail). Awesome suit! I'm definitely going to put the maker on m my short-list for my own commission.

A bobcat is a lynx (Lynx rufus). ;)

...though, of course, there are other species. My guess is DukeFawks was modelled more on the eurasian lynx rather than the american one.

I'm flabbergasted that I didn't know that. I always assumed a bobcat was a purely American species whereas lynx were spread across much of the old world.

It's these pesky Americans always calling things by completely different names, just to confuse us. ;)

Ok, so a bobcat is one of the species of lynx. There's some informative stuff in Big Cats Online here:

I don't know for sure but I looks like it was one by OneFurAll / [livejournal.com profile] scribble_fox.

If you're refering to this it wasen't done by scribblefox as far as I know. It was someone relatively unknown. Can't remember the name, but it wasen't scribble... ask dukefawks :)

It was indeed that one. Looks very Scribblefox-esque even if it wasn't by him!

No doubt whoever Duke got it from cost less and provided less hassle than OFA seem to normally have.

It is a eurasian lynx indeed and it was made by [livejournal.com profile] triplem. I asked her about another commission but she told me she was to busy atm. You could ask again, wouldn't hurt I guess.

Ah cool, I'll be sure to let Klepsie know.

How was TG by the way? I look forward to reading your write up in your LJ :)
