Today I finally got a replacement for my old 17" TFT as it had been giving me severe grief over the past couple of months where the screen would just turn off without warning while in use and you have to turn the power off and on to get the picture back.  Sometimes you had to powercycle up to 10 times to get it working, it was very frustrating.

So today I've taken receipt of my new monitor, an LG L204WT which is a 20.1" widescreen offering a 1680x1050 native resolution, 2000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response time.  Now this spec alone is absolutely amazing but what's more amazing is the price.  It was £215 on Komplett.com.  When I mentioned to one of the bosses at work I was getting it, he said I should get it via work to write off the VAT, so I've now got it for £180.  Furthermore I don't have to pay for it all in one go which is great.

Widescreen really does make a spectacular improvement over the normal 4:3 aspect for computer use.  You can make better use of the screen with various stuff displayed at once.  Also, I can watch DVDs, videos and my DigiTV in proper widescreen.  The picture quality is truely awesome, it even impressed my brother who is a bit of an A/V nut.  The best of all of this however is that I've plugged my Xbox 360 into it so I can use it for high def... now this has truely blown me away.  Even though it's lower than the native resolution for the monitor, the picture scales well and games look simply fantastic.  I watched the Ninety Nine Nights opening sequence from the demo just now and was literally blown away.

Definitley a worthwhile purchase (and yes, less than 2 weeks since buying an Xbox 360 had I bought an HD compatible screen :P).

I already had a Dell 2005FPW before the Xbox 360, but now I'm thinking about a Dell 2407FPW so I can have 1080i/p though it ;)

Mmm, a 1920 x 1200 monitor would have been nice, but I don't really have the space for 24" on my desk and the price is like at least 3 times what I paid for this.

ooh! ta for the recommendation ^.^
I was eyeing a 19" widescreen in Dixons (well Currys.Digital :P) the other day which was reduced a fair ways, but lacked the resolution of the LG.

Yeah, this is why I went for 20", it was required to get a decent resolution. I really didn't want to compramise with 19" as the vertical resolution would have been less than my old monitor.
