Finally got round to sorting out BT. First step was requesting that I take ownership of the line which starts a new contract and new phone number. This process will also cut off my net connection with BT which I'm really not going to be sad to stop due to the capping they do on the line. Once the switch completes on the 24th, I'll have no connection and will need to wait for any residual broadband order to cease off (due to experience via work, that'd be another 5 working days). Once the line is clear I'll place an order for Be Pro which will give up to 24mbit downstream (I hope to get around 16-18mbit as I'm quite close to the exchange) but as it's LLU, it'll take a bit for order to complete (maybe up to 3 weeks >_<) but I'll be very glad once it's up.

However, this does mean I could be without the internet for up to 4 weeks. Fortunately, I've got a HSDPA USB modem which I'll be able to use in the meantime so I won't be totally without a connection, I just won't be able to download movies and stuff as it has a 500mb daily limit and 3gb montly limit. Anyway, looking forward to getting rid of this awful BT connection and home hub and getting a decent service for once :)

No point unlocking the modem, it's the 7.2mbit Vodafone one and I'm on a 24month contract. 3GB will be enough, just won't be able to do the downloads I'm used to (will need to get them out the way before the DSL service terminates).

It depends on what downstream my connection settles on before I decide if I will go for the extra upload. Upload can be very useful, though it'd need to have pretty good downstream for me to be able to absorb the reduced downstream in order to get the better upstream. 1.3mbit is good enough.
