I just finished watching Donkey Punch, a film I thought was something else when I was "acquiring" it so when I did start to watch it, I knew nothing about it. Turns out it's a British "psychological horror thriller". I likened the film in my mind to Shallow Grave where it's about some normal people who make a mistake and try to cover it up but end up getting deeper and deeper in crap.

Obviously Shallow Grave was where the protagonists decided to bury the body of a guy who died who had a lot of cash rather than report the crime so they could keep the money but the plan was never as simple as that. Whereas in Donkey Punch, a group of guys and girls holidaying in Majorca get frisky on a boat and one of the girls is accidentally killed during a sex act known as a Donkey Punch. Rather than report it, the guys decide to cover up the evidence by dumping the body at sea when the girls decide to take their revenge.

Now after seeing it, I decided to do a bit of reading up about the film online. Turns out that the majority of people on the internet didn't like it (or at least are better at making their opinions of the film heard) stating it was implausible, needlessly violent and lacking in plot. Maybe it's just cos nothing phases me any more having seen all sorts of stuff I probably would have rather not seen online, but I genuinely enjoyed the film as a thriller. The motives of the characters seemed plausible enough for me... *shrug*

One of my favourite quotes about the film comes from none other than the Daily 'Ban this sick filth' Mail with the following:
"It is, quite simply, the most distasteful, depraved and nihilistic film I have ever had the misfortune to sit through. I freely confess that there were times I felt physically ill simply watching it."
I'm sure if they put that quote on the DVD box saying it's from the Daily Mail, there'd be plenty of people who'd want to see it :P
