Confuzzled - Travel plans
Mar. 24th, 2009 12:11 amThis is something I really should have planned sooner. However I naively thought that with Confuzzled being a convention occurring within the (admittedly small) country where I live, there wouldn't be any problems getting there. How wrong I was.
Firstly the trains normally have an option of cheap single fares if you book early enough. However at the moment, the single fares (£22 each way) are only available on the outbound journey and not on the return and the trains it did apply to on the outbound journey would require 4 changes rather than being direct. Therefore I would have to get a return ticket at the cost of £85 which I was reluctant to pay but would if required. I decided to see what other options there were. There's the coach of course but that takes 8 hours each way and still costs £50 so that's not going to happen. Driving's not an option as I can't drive and I don't know anyoen driving up on the same days I am from the same area as me who could take me.
So, I checked the flights. From Southampton, my local airport to Manchester, it would cost £117 return and so with this being such a lot more than the return train, it wasn't a viable option. However
arakinuk suggested getting the flight from London Heathrow and I could get to the airport from his place that morning. The flight from Heathrow to Manchester is £75 per person. Will still need to pay for either airport parking or taxi but in the end, it will work out a lot easier to get there for relatively similar price.
So yeah, I'll be flying to Manchester on the FlyBMI flight which leaves Heathrow at 8:35am on the 22nd May and will be getting the flight back from Manchester at 2pm to Heathrow.
Sorted :)
