OK, I finally sent off my application for the position of "Help Desk Administrator" at Eastleigh College. I had received the application form Thursday last week but had put it off cos I wasn't sure I'd really want the job. I'd have to get the bus with all the college bound kids every day to work... also the fact that you had to fill out a form rather than them just accepting your CV was rather intimidating.

Anyways, I filled out the form this morning on the train in, being conscious of others looking over at my CV and what I was writing and stuff... Nosy bastards :P Sent it off at lunchtime first class. The deadline for applications is the 16th so it should get there in time.

Fingers crossed! I actually hope I do get it just so I can part from my current employment and start getting my life on track again. I'd probably still be on the look out for a better job tho... Who knows, I might like it yet (Saying that I probably won't even get it...)

Filling in a form rather than using a CV is pretty much standard for a faceless, bureaucratic institution such as a college, where processing individuals like so much paper is far better than dealing with everyone on a one-to-one basis, which wastes time and, God forbid, introduces *humanity* to the equation.

Err, was that a rant? ;)
Oh well, never mind. :)

Don't worry about the form, I'm sure you filled it in great. Hope you do well. :)

Yeah. Seems to be a government type thing. Had to fill out a main form about qualifications, experience and skills and then there was a health form and a race/disability form or something. The same as when I applied for a job at the Ordinance Survey.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I think I got everything down. To be honest, I think I'm increadibly over-qualified for this job cos it seems more aimed to college leavers who have no work experience. I have 4.5yrs of help desk experience - they'd be silly to turn me down :D

Can't get me an application form, can you? Just in case tomorrow doesn't go so well?

Is a bit late for that but I'll be keeping my eye out for anything that becomes available. Anyways, it's a bit far for you to commute... :P

Good luck with the Uni thing, I'm sure there'll be a space for what you're after.

Come to think of it, if I DO get this new job, my current company would be looking for a 1st line helpdesk person if you'd be ineterested. Prolly only for £13k-ish tho.
