New hi-fi arrived today
Nov. 26th, 2002 10:30 pmI was so excited to hear that my Ministry of Sound hi-fi had finally arrived. I couldn't wait to get home to try it out. However, I was bitterly dissappointed...
First thing I noticed was that the quality of the packaged speakers, even though they aesthetically look really nice, they are a really awful quality. I know now that I was hastey in purchasing the hi-fi, I bought it without seeing any reviews of it, however I blindly assumed that if MoS were going to put their name on a product, it's gotta sound half decent... My brother donated some speakers for free (That cost him £10) that were much better quality than those provided.
Next problem, it's too damn loud! And this is not due to the replacement speakers. On Vol 01, the first notch before mute, it is really quite loud. So loud I cant just leave it on the radio when my parents are asleep. This creates a problem for me because I fall asleep listening to the radio, with the volume on really quiet. I can no longer do this. I've been sleeping uncomfortably recently because I have been unable to listen to the radio since I sold my previous hi-fi and so now I will continue to have problems. Can always use a portable radio but that doesn;t have a sleep timer...
It would seem there is a bug in the thing that means that while playing DVDs, the volume will decrease or increase at random! I will need to call the customer support about this... :-/
It's only saving grace is that even though it is also a MP3 CD and a DVD player, it is only supposed to play European region 2 DVDs. Turns out that it is in fact region free! In addition to that, it plays SVCDs without any problems :)
That's it for now, I'm sure I'll find more things at time goes on. I know I should have got that Philips unit now...
