What a looooooong day!
Jan. 29th, 2003 10:51 pmI've only just got in since my last LJ post where I left it saying I was off to see the opticians. Details follow...
The eye test was pretty uneventful, my eyes have only changed fractionally in the last 2 years so I don't need to shell out for another pair of lenses which is good. The optician was also able to explain my eyelid twitching and headaches I've been having recently. They are not anything to do with my eyesight, they are simply due to stress. More evidence that my job is bad for my health.
Anyway, after the opticians, I called
kashyfox but he was stuck cooking dinner for his family so I decided to wonder around town. Now, I can't wonder around Southampton without buying anything and so I came away with quite a bit
Books (3 for 2 offer)
I seem to have really been bitten by the book bug as I now have a total of 9 new books to read after I finish reading Flood (Should do tomorrow). The question is, what do I read next? I still have all 5 books of The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy to read yet!
CDs
Finally met up with Kashy at Starbucks but neither of us felt like coffee so we went off to cash in some games Kashy had in CEX and in turn, he got The Getaway. Wondered off to PC Arena for a bit and played Battlefield 1942 and Wolfenstein until we got bored (We were the only ones there so did get kinda boring). Went back to Kashy's and had some curry which was really nice.
Later went off to Splithoof's place as we were going to go to the cinema. However we couldn't decide on what to see so instead, we agreed not to see anything and I was to go home. I waited for the bus but after 20 mins, it hadn't turned up and I was getting more and more frustrated. I truely hate busses, give me trains any day. I found out the time of the next train to find that I just missed one and the next was in an hour so I went back to Splithoof's for the company of Split and his boyfriend, Bunniboy and Kashy. We had pizza which I really didn't need but was really tasty and then I made my way home.
Managed to blag a free trip on the train with my train pass to London so at least that makes up for paying for a return bus ticket earlier. Worked off the pizza in the 30min uphil walk back to my place from the station and now I'm exhausted and need to have a well earnt sleep. I definitley made the most of this day off, even moreso that that of an average weekend :)
Work tomorrow... bleh :( *collapses*

Books (3 for 2 offer)
- Playing the Moldovans at Tennis - Tony Hawk. This sounded like the Dave Gorman book I had read before as it is about a real life story where a guy sets off to prove himself right after a drunken bet.
- Blackbox - Nick Walker. Sounds like a great, interesting, contemporary story that could be made into a film.
- Flight from Deathrow - Harry Hill. Yes, Harry Hill the comedian wrote a novel. Reading the back it seems to be very bizarre, I just hope it's not so strange, you can't follow it.

CDs
- Lemonjelly.ky - Lemon Jelly. Listening to this as I type, every bit as good at their current album, Lost Horizons. This CD is the compilation of various EPs they released before they signed with XL Recordings. Very good indeed.
- Island Row - Capitol K. After seeing them live about a year ago now and thinking they were really crap live, I've bought their album. The reason? It's actually really good! I had listened to the songs off their web site before and finally, the first time I've seen it in a shop, I grabbed it. The shop assistant even said, "You'll like that one, very good it is" or words to that effect, he seemed quite impressed when I said I had seen them live ;)
- Nice Weather for Ducks - Lemon Jelly (DVD Single). On recommendation from Glis, I saw this and got it. I already had the album but the video is supposed ot be something special. It's very psycadelic and cute, I like :) The B side "Soft" was less impressive, I heard a longer, better version on the radio which I must download.
