I've decided that I won't be going to this week's Londonfur meet. The main reason is that I really can't afford an expensive social day in London and so I would have to sit in the pub all day a nd generally be very bored. Not really my idea of a fun way to spend a day.

Instead, I plan to go with my brother to a LAN party that's going on and play games all day. My PC will probably look a bit shit compared to everyone elses machines that are all modded up with lights inside the case or whatever but my system is still fine for playing the games of today.

Now there's aspects of modding that I can see some point in. It's definitely worth having a computer that runs nice and quiet, with the fans and disks being barely audible even in a quiet room. Having the insides all flashing LEDs and so on seems rather pointless. But then I' probably just a boring old....

I'd agree, aesthetic mods are a quite pointless, but if you can afford them and don't go over the top, the effect can be pretty good :) Just when people start concentrating on aesthetics over functionality to a ridiculous degree that it really grates.
