"Crank" Film Review type thing
Sep. 1st, 2006 11:55 pmThis evening, I decided to go and see Crank at the cinema following a positive review in Empire magazine. It sounded like a fun action movie with an interesting premise and so I encouraged my brother to go see it with me as he's the one with the car. Now yes, it was an action film, but it's not one which took itself particularily seriously.
The premise of the film is that hard man Jason Statham is injected with a lethal poison which will kill him unless he can keep his adrenaline pumping. Empire compared it with Speed, but with the main character effectively being the bus. There were lots of laughs from the absurd situations the main character got himself into to keep the adrenaline flowing. Although ironically many of the things he did should probably have killed him anyway, but I suspect some cartoon physics were involved. The film felt like it could have easily have been a computer game due to the fact he was after the big boss man that put him in this predicament and he has to pick up power ups like energy drinks and adrenalin to keep him going, but it all worked in the spirit of the film. I was also drinking a Jolt Blue while watching the film which helped me get into it all :P.
Anyway, I got from the film what I went to get from the cinema, which was entertainment. I'd certainly recommend it if you like your action :P Just need to see Snakes on a Plane now...
