Got the call I was expecting from the job agency but they said that the employer didn't want me because it would be such a drop in salary (I was asking for £14k when I'm currently on £17.5k). He tried to explain that £3k of that is spent on travel and then there's London weighting but it seems his mind was made up and didn't want me cos he (the employer, not the agency) though I was worth more than that and wouldn't stay in the job for long.

This really was a kick in the nuts but at least the agency called to say why I was rejected. Maybe I should just put £14k as my current wage on my CV as that's what I get after travel and it'd be less likely to scare off prospective employers...

If you really think someone will stay for less than a couple of years (one year at the absolute minimum), then it doesn't make sense to give them a permanent contract. The costs involved in recruiting someone are quite considerable!

So from that point of view, the reason was rational. Sly does need to convince people he's willing to stay somewhere for several years, on that kind of salary.

Alternatively, he should apply for jobs with a higher salary. (-8

Well done for stating the obvious, however if the jobs existed, I'd certainly be applying for them. IT jobs are few and far between and so I am rather desperate to get anything that comes along just to get myself out of London.
