Now I'm new to selling stuff on eBay so this may well happen all the time but I ask you to first look at my eBay auction here.  Now read the following questions I was asked:

Q: Hi there Can I ask: 1) Is the phone fully working? 2) Does it run a Symbian menu system? 3) What is the reason for sale? 4) Does it come with a memory card? 5) Would you accept £45.00 for the 7600 on a buy it now? 6) Will you ship recorded 1st class for security? Thanks

Answers to every one of these questions is in the item description itself!  All apart from question 5 where I'm not selling a 7600 and I certainly wouldnt want to sell it outside of eBay for £45!  I mean, I'm just dumbfounded but the stupidity of this guy... he's obviously not read a word of the item description.

Is it worth responding to this or should I not bother?

As tempting as it may be, I don't want to insult him as idiots like him buy crap off ebay. No reason to deter his interest in adding a bid ;)

Only on Ebay do people buy things 2nd hand for more than they can buy them new! And then they complain that you have stitched him up. ( Um didn't the 2nd chance offer give you a clue!)

Yeah, I've noticed that. It's odd that all these people will actively buy things in eBay over in real shops... if they shop about, they'd realise that they could get most stuff cheaper elsewhere :P

Ah well, most people, when they get caught in the spirit of an auction and are bidding against someone, it's not the money which counts, it's the sense of winning. That's why they call it "winning" an auction, to give you a sense of achievement when you do get the item. It all works out nicely for the sellers though ;)

Completely! and i think that people work that out eventually!

It still makes me smile when you see a "winning bid" email!

Winning the game of more money than sense, bit like Lotto!

Works out nicely for Ebay as well :)

I would tell him, bluntly but firmly, that the answers to all his questions are in the item description, and that the minimum 'buy it now' price you will accept is £250 (or whatever's a slightly-silly price for the item). There's no need to be rude, or to waste more than sixty seconds on the silly prick; and, as you say in a previous comment, you may as well play the odds that he's stupid enough to pay over the odds.

Now that sounds like a powerseller!
But Ebay is so quiet at the moment!

If someone tries to give you an offer outside of ebay (whether it's through their ask-a-question system or not), they are breaking eBay rules and ought to be reported. Sounds petty, but...

I dunno but it sounds like this person has put together a group of questions just to send to loads of people auctioning of similar phones to save them the hassle of inquiring about each one individually, maybe.

Now you mention it, that would make sense... but still, someone should really read a description before asking questions about it.

I get them *all* the time when I'm selling stuff on eBay. When someone is stupid I reply with subtle sarcasm so that your average reader gets it but the person asking the question doesn't.

Shows how stupid they really are, and personally very satisfying :D
