Completion DateTitleRetrospective Description
30/04/97D-Gen ArchMy first attempt at a song and my lack of experience really shows. The song is going nowhere, breaks into something completely different twice. I think that that's because it was just a collection of idea I had floating about, badly thrown together
09/05/97Tune 2Another mishmash of melodys and samples. This time Axel-F makes an appearance *cringe!*
16/05/97 SpeedcoreStarting to sound a bit more professional here. Not as fast as the name suggests, is a pretty average techno tune
16/05/97TrancecoreA really good remix of "You're Not Alone" by Olive. One of my better songs.
29/05/97Make the World a Happier PlaceA crap attempt at happy hardcore spurred by getting some cool happy hardcore samples and trying to make a song around it. I hadn't really heard enough happy hardcore at the time to make it work however
02/06/97X-CiteProbably my favourite of the bunch. However, the main tune is copied from another song by someone else, this is essentially my remix of it... But it really works :)
07/06/97CommonA bizarre attempt at gabba even though I had heard very little before. I guess this is what I imagined it would sound like ;) The tune has plenty of energy provided by beat but not much else goes on to make it interesting.
11/06/97Go Wit Da FlowAn attempt at remixing "Go With the Flow" by someone who I forget right now but it was probably in the charts. Doesn't really work and is quite plain and slower than it should be.
20/06/97Anti-ClimaxAn interesting combination of the amen break and the sounds of posh BBC radio presenters. I like this, seems to flow quite well. I played around with stereo here a bit here too.
06/04/98SkiesAn energetic trancey tune. Nothing professional but still worth a listen.
08/05/98Mind of the Machine RemixRemix of N-Trance's Mind of the Machine. Kinda works but is a bit slow... Needs to be faster, harder, more pounding... Another remix perhaps?
04/11/99Let The BeatNot really a song, more of me playing around with the "Let the beat control your body" sample from the 2-Unlimited song of the same name. I put it up anyways as it was the last scrap of tracking I did.

Yeah, I made these ages ago in a now almost forgotten part of my teenagehood. Things were much better back then...

Let me know what you think, just as long as you don't say they're shit. I know they are, however I made them 5 years ago so give me some credit :P I'm not putting these up cos I think they're good, I'm putting them us cos I want to archive the work I did back then permanently.

Oh, if you fancy a laugh, read the instrument names, again those are untouched since the time I wrote them and some of them could be quite embarrasing! :P

*typed live, posted afterwards..*

Listened to D-Gen Arch so far..... I told ya you could do it better than me! :op
Tune 2 is downloading...

Okay, Tune 2 is an interesting blend and the Axel-F bit was fun, though a better piano sample could have imnproved that a bit! :o) There was a nice piano sample in the file JJJ-LOVE.S3M which I used on my one and only (very, very bad) mod file!
SpeeCore downloads....

Ooo, opens with a Mortal Kombat feel to it... Me likes. Another interesting selection of samples adds to a firly basic tune. The intro section would make a great backing track for a piece of music though.
Trancecore downloads....

I wish I had a faster net connection....

Nah, Trancecore started good until the You're Not Alone samples came along. The vocal samples fit well but the musical ones don't - they seem to play too fast and they don't quite fit in with the general beat.

On to Diatomic Record's first release from Wootz - Make The World A Happier Place. I didn't really like this one much until about a minute from the end when it changed completely and turned into something I quite enjoyed indeed. Chippin' with attitude. Ended on a good note for me (and I don't mean musical note there!).

X-Cite is actually quite good. Not what I'd call a genre defining track but then it never pretends it is. Plus it only took 2 hours to complete. Best so far by a long shot and a track I enjoyed throughout!

Okay, on to Common - a name which describes the song - ish. Dominated by the big stompy drums and random noise this has all the ingredients to be a good track. Sadly it's all far too random and the synth piano sounds off-key. If this is how the genre is meant to sound then I use this file as a warning to others! :o)

Go wit Da Flow sounds like someone adding vocals and decent drums to their Gameboy. Nice vocal effects in the track though although it seems there are two speeds again, the main slow one and an underlying faster one to keep up with the vocals which makes it all sound a bit clumsy. Maybe self-recored vocals would work better next time?

Anti-Climax opens well with a nice generic drum loop and then adds more random noise which all would have sounded great without the offish synth piano again. Great use of the vocals though, well, they amused me. As the track goes on I'm finding the synth piano is growing on me. Bugger. I hate you all. :o) Yep, another good track there. On to the next one.

At first earfull, I like Skies. It's gentle with a quiet thumpy noise in the background. The track then goes in to the rest of the drums for a while and manages to remain quite pallatable. I find all the samples get thrown together and blended around but this time it works, almost as if you've learnt from Common and Go Wit Da Flow. Yep, Skies is another one on the like list.

Mind Of The Machine Remix is still downloading - I need a faster connection...

Still going - it's over half a meg in filesize so I'm expecting nice quality samples... 86% done so far.... 90%... 95%, you get the idea..

Mind Of The Machine Remix opens very well. As I had hoped, a nice selection of high quality samples and a nice piano I might pinch for myself... In fact, the piano is almost haunting as it plays it's basic but effective loop and it's backed up by the good selection of background instruments. Things begin to loose their feel briefly as it all speeds up but manages to regain itself as the speed caps off before ending with more high quality vocal sampled speech. I reckon this beats X-Cite. My fav so far!

Let The beat was hi-jacked (obvisouly processed) so the link didn't work. So I went hunting for it but failed to find it. :o( An updated link (or the file emailed to me) would be appreciated so I can give the verdict on the final song in the Wootz Collection.

All in all, a damn site better than what I could have done, my skills with Fast Tracker 2 are rather limited and I have no composing ability at all. I do reccomend Cubic Player 1.6 for these tracks since it just makes themall sound so much beter! :o) Favourite tracks for me was Mind Of The Machine Remix.

You going to go back in to the MOD scene again?

HAHA! It was still there, just a bad link!

Let The Beat

Okay, this opens with some nice gentle synth being trampled on my big stompy beats. It's rather slow, eased and well paced. The "Let The Beat" samples are again a little clumsy and don't quite fit in but all in all, not bad. Not going to beat Mind Of The Machine Remix but nevermind.

There you go - honest thoughts without saying "It's Shit" to any of them. trying to talk about genres I have NO idea about is hard so I just hope I didn't sound like too much of an arse! :o)

Compose more! The world needs the latest material from Wootz!

Thank's for the comments. Especially the sarcastic quips referring to comments made in the instruments ;).

I don't know if I'll return to tracking... Maybe if i get the inspiriation. I'll probably have to learn it all over again however.

Sarcastic? Not intentional if it came over in that way! :o)

Anyway, if you did return, what would you use. Fast Tracker 2 again, or Modplug tracker?

FT2 most likely. Is what I'm used to... Dunoo tho, not used ModPlug - could be easier to use and produce the same effect.

Yes! You must send me your old music so I know that you weren't born with tracking skills in your blood or whatever :P
